The Master of Scientific Studies is a course work plus research degree designed to provide specialised training in a specific field of study.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline* at the level of Credit (GPA 5) or above;
or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma or Bachelor with Honours in a relevant discipline* at the level of Credit (GPA 5) or above.

*Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to:
Biochemistry; Biology; Botany; Chemistry; Genetics; Geology; Mathematics; Microbiology; Physics; Physiology; Statistics; and Zoology.
A degree will be considered relevant to a nominated major if it includes study that covers the minimum assumed knowledge. Where it is not clear from their academic background, applicants may include a cover letter with their application describing how they have achieved the minimum assumed knowledge.

Minimum Assumed Knowledge for Each Major

Biochemistry: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Biodiversity Science: two units of biology and two units in any biological or earth science at 200-level or above or equivalent

Biomedical Science: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Chemistry: four units of chemistry or equivalent

Genetics: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Mathematics: two units of (calculus-based) mathematics and an additional two units in mathematics at 200-level or above or equivalent

Medicinal Chemistry: two units of chemistry and an additional two units of chemistry, biochemistry or pharmaceutical science

Quantitative Ecology: one unit of statistics or probability, one unit of (calculus-based) mathematics, and two units of ecology, physical geography, or related sciences, or equivalent

Zoology: two units of biology and two units in any biological science at the 200-level or above equivalent

This course is designed for eligible graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing degree and equivalent degrees.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Nursing degree or equivalent relevant AQF Level 7 degree at a grade point average 5.5 or better overall in the final two years of the undergraduate degree;
or

(b) if applicants do not satisfy the normal entry requirements but have a demonstrated grade point average 6.5 in only the final year of a relevant AQF Level 7 degree;
or

(c) if their application is based on other factors including alternative degrees/qualifications, plus recent registered nurse work experience that is relevant to the proposed research focus or involvement in research, they may be admitted at the discretion of the head of school;
and

(d) at least one of the following criteria must be met:

(i) English is the applicant's first language;
or

(ii) an IELTS (Academic) overall score of at least 6.5 with no sub-band score less than 6.0 (or equivalent TOEFL score of at least 91 in the Internet-based Text with not less than 22 in the written component and 20 in Listening, Speaking and Reading);
or

(iii) successful completion of an advanced EAP program at the University of New England English Language Centre.

This degree is designed to meet the Australian Government's requirements for Early Childhood Education and to qualify graduates as four-year trained Early Childhood Teachers*. *Please note: The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) is not recognised in NSW to teach in primary schools.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) (i) hold an AQF Level 5 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent, approved by the Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA); and

(ii) after completion of the Diploma above, have completed early childhood workplace experience
comprising one year full-time (or equivalent) room leader experience
or
two years full-time (or equivalent) experience as a family day care accredited provider or an early childhood teacher assistant/aide or an accredited before and after school carer. Applicants should provide a Statement of Service from the early childhood provider on centre/business letterhead signed by their supervisor specifying their work experience after completion of the Diploma. ACECQA accredits all early childhood providers and has a list of accredited providers on their website; and

(iii) meet the Standard Minimum English Language Requirement as set out in the
University's
English Language Requirements
; or

(b) hold a three-year AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree in Early Childhood recognised by the Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA); and

(i) provide either a signed copy of Professional Experience Reports or a letter from the tertiary institution where the Bachelor was awarded specifying that the applicant completed at least 10 days Professional Experience with the Birth-2 age group; or

(ii) provide evidence (employer's letter on company letterhead) of at least 10 days experience with the Birth-2 age group acquired after the award of the Bachelor Degree.

Students not meeting criteria (b)(i) or (b)(ii) may be admitted but must complete the unit PREX310 Professional Experience Birth to 2 Years (10 days) in addition to the normal Program of Study.

The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) is open to those International Students only with an Australian Temporary Resident status that permits them to study online and to attempt Professional Experience Placements in ACECQA-approved Australian settings.

This course was previously known as Graduate Diploma in Disability. The Graduate Diploma in Disability Practice provides knowledge and skills in accordance with the professional standards and requirements of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
