University of New England (UNE) Courses

1. Admission to candidature shall be determined by the Head of School on the recommendation of the Course Coordinator

2. Except as provided in Rule 3, a candidate for admission to the honours course shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Media and Communications from the University of New England;

(b) have attained a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (Credit);

(c) have achieved 18 credit points at Distinction level or better in 300-level units in their chosen area of study;

(d) have passed units to the value of at least 48 credit points in the subject in which the candidate wishes to proceed;

(e) have fulfilled any additional requirements prescribed and published by the School or area concerned.

3. With the approval of the Head of School on the recommendation of the course coordinator, a person who has fulfilled the requirements of an equivalent AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification of a university or other institution and who meets requirements considered by the School to be equivalent to those specified in Rule 2. (b), (c), (d) and (e), may be admitted to the honours course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Media and Communications with Honours.

A candidate shall:

(a) be qualified for admission (see

(b) hold a three-year AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree which includes a three-year sequence in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, completed within the last 10 years; or a three-year AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree and an AQF Level 8 Graduate Diploma degree which includes a three-year sequence in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, completed within the last 10 years; and have achieved a GPA of at least 6.25 in the 200/300/400-level Psychology units within the accredited Psychology sequence of units.

satisfaction of these requirements does not guarantee a place in the program as there is a quota on Psychology Honours admissions and selection is based solely on academic merit.

Students with previous studies in psychology must have achieved sufficient grades to satisfy the progression requirements of the UNE Psychology with Honours degree.

A candidate shall:

(i)(a) hold an AQF Level 9 Masters qualification in Law or hold an AQF Level 8 Bachelor of Law with Honours; or hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor with at least two years full-time, documented, relevant professional experience;

(b) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor;

(ii) comply with the

Applicants applying under rule (a) must provide a Statement of Service from their employer.

*Relevant professional experience includes, but is not limited to: Law Department, Legal Practice, Legal Research or Policy Writing.

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification;

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in Accounting.

A candidate shall:

(a) hold a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of New England or an equivalent AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification in a relevant discipline*;

(b) have achieved a GPA of 5 in at least 18 credit points at 300-level in Computer Science.

(c) Normally, candidature for the degree shall commence at the beginning of either Trimester 1 or Trimester 2 of the year following that in which the candidate qualifies in terms of Rule (b).

A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see

(a) shall complete a satisfactory written personal statement assessed by the discipline within six months prior to the date of enrolment;

(b) shall have on admission to the degree a performing standard equivalent to Grade 6 of the Australian Music Examinations Board demonstrated via audition or music performance qualifications;

(c) shall have on admission to the degree a music theory standard equivalent to Grade 4 of the Australian Music Examinations Board demonstrated via music performance qualifications or the successful completion of a music theory test set by the Music Discipline Convenor.

Former or current UNE students may transfer into the Bachelor of Music on the basis of previous Music studies completed as part of a University of New England degree where they have:

(a) completed MUSI121 with a Credit grade or higher;

(b) completed MUSI101 or MUSI110 or MUSI111 with a Credit grade or higher.

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 5 Diploma or 6 Advanced Diploma from: a Vocational Education Training (VET) Community Services Training Package; or from a Vocational Education Training (VET) Health Training Package in one of the following areas: Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Care; Nursing. (c) hold an AQF Level 4 Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice (HLT40213) or an AQF Level 4 Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (HLT40113).

A candidate shall:

(a) be qualified for admission (see

(b) hold an approved overseas qualification under the Articulations Programs;

(c) hold an approved qualification from an Australian TAFE under the Articulation Programs.

Recommended studies are any two units of Mathematics. For some units in the economics, finance and quantitative statistics areas it is recommended that students have previously studied mathematics. Also Accounting, Economics and Business.

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification;

(b) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification in a relevant discipline*;

(c) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Bachelor with Honours qualification in a relevant discipline*.

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree;

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma, AQF Level 9 Masters or AQF Level 10 Doctorate degree;

(c) satisfy UNE by means of other relevant* professional experience by submitting a Statement of Service from your employer/s; a resume outlining a minimum of three years' full-time (or equivalent) relevant* professional experience and training undertaken in the past 10 years.

* Relevant disciplines include,

: Counselling, psychology, social work, nursing, mental health nursing, community services, children's services, youth work, care for the aged, care for the disabled, residential client care, welfare, mental health support and pastoral care.
