About University of New England (UNE)

At the University of New England, we know it takes more than being online to be a great online university. It takes time and a lifetime's experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults in 1954. And we've been perfecting it ever since. Our mission is to help ordinary people 'future-proof' themselves in response to the rapidly changing world in which we live.

As Australia's oldest regional university, and with almost all of our courses available for study online, UNE offers the kind of flexibility and support that can only come from a university that has long understood the challenges faced by adults studying from home.

We have more than 18,000 online students studying over 170 online courses. We provide 24/7 tutor support and even our exams are online. It's no wonder Online Study Australia ranks UNE as Australia's best online university.

We also have three teaching periods (trimesters), commencing in March, June and October, meaning students can decide when and how much they study each year.

Perhaps this is why our students and others continue to rate us so highly for student satisfaction and teaching quality.

Here's proof we're doing it right:

  • UNE is the only Australian public university awarded the maximum 5 stars for Overall Experience for 14 consecutive years (2007-2020).
  • We are ranked Australia's top online university by Online Study Australia.
  • The 2019 QILT Student Experience Survey ranked UNE 6th out of 41 Australian universities.

Application process

For online/off-campus study: Apply online directly to UNE's - the application process takes about 15 mins. It's simple to apply online with no application fees – plus you don't need to upload previous Australian university or Year 12 qualification documents (we can verify these when processing your application).
