Every applicant must either
1. be a graduate and normally have achieved an average grade of B in the papers satisfying the final year major subject requirements for the degree, or
2. have equivalent alternative qualifications or experience acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce).
In considering an applicant's qualifications, regard will be given to the detail of the course of study followed to gain the qualification, as well as the applicant's performance in the programme.

1. be a graduate and, normally, be engaged in tertiary teaching; or
2. if enrolling for a programme for an endorsed certificate, be a graduate and, normally, be engaged in clinical teaching at tertiary level; or
3. have alternative qualifications or experience acceptable to the Board of Studies.

Every applicant shall:
1. have a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University, or be able to demonstrate extensive practical, professional or scholarly experience to the satisfaction of the Dean of the College of Education;
2. be registered to teach in New Zealand, or have an equivalent teaching qualification or experience acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities);

Master of Primary Health Care (MPHC)

The Master of Primary Health Care (MPHC) degree is is a nationally-recognised multidisciplinary advanced qualification for health professionals engaged in the delivery of primary health care.

Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences).
Every applicant shall
1. hold the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Health Care, or
2. hold an equivalent qualification approved by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences), and
3. have completed the prerequisite papers:
  - PRHC 701 New Zealand Primary Health Care or PRHC 703 Strategy and Leadership in Primary Health Care (30 points);
    and either
  - HASC 417 Health Sciences Research Methods
    or equivalent research paper(s) approved by the Board of Studies in Primary Health Care.
In exceptional circumstances the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) may approve an exemption from the specified prerequisites.

The Master of Indigenous Studies (MIndS) degree is founded in the proposition that Maori, Pacific Island and other Indigenous peoples have unique bodies of knowledge about customary, environmental and cultural practices.

Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities).
Every applicant must normally either
1. have completed the requirements for an Honours degree or other bachelor's degree requiring at least four years of full-time study, or equivalent, or
2. have completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree requiring three years of full-time study, have had at least three years' experience relevant to the programme, and provide evidence of ability to undertake advanced academic study.
In exceptional circumstances, an applicant who is not a graduate may be considered on the basis of alternative qualifications or satisfactory training and experience in management, administration, or leadership in indigenous communities. Such preparation must be equivalent to a degree, and the applicant must provide evidence of ability to undertake advanced level academic study. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities) may require such an applicant to pass one or more prescribed papers either before admission to or concurrently with the programme.
In considering an applicant's qualifications, regard will be had to the detail of the course of study followed to gain the qualifications and the option for which a successful applicant might be permitted to enrol (see regulation 2 (a)), as well as the applicant's performance in the programmes.
