It is suitable if you are not sure if you wish to undertake, or do not qualify for, direct entry into the Master of Health Service Management. It may subsequently be credited to the Master of Health Service Management, subject to your grades.

Graduate Diploma

The Graduate Diploma in Journalism enables you to study another subject without completing a second bachelor's degree. The graduate diploma is a bridging tool to gain the equivalent of an undergraduate major in a specific area so you can go on to postgraduate study.
Entry Requirements

To enter the Graduate Diploma in Journalism you will:

  • have been awarded or qualified for an undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification, or
  • have been admitted to the qualification on the basis of equivalent relevant professional experience.

To ensure this qualification is right for you, you will be required to submit a short personal statement detailing why you wish to study this qualification and your relevant industry experience (if any).

If you already have an undergraduate degree, you are strongly advised to consider doing the Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism.

To enter the Master of Creative Enterprise you will:

  • have been awarded or qualified for a bachelor's degree with a B average in the highest level courses of your degree, or
  • demonstrated equivalent practical, professional and/or scholarly experience.

  • a written expression of interest

Entry Requirements

This programme is a selected entry programme. This means there are a number of extra requirements you must meet.

To enter the Master of Specialist Teaching you will have:

  • been awarded or qualified for a bachelor's degree with a minimum B grade average across the highest level courses (or equivalent), and
  • been awarded or qualified for a relevant professional qualification, and
  • completed at least two years relevant professional experience, or
  • been awarded or qualified for a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching (or equivalent) with a minimum B average.

You will also provide the following documents as part of the selection process:

  • verified copies of all academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University
  • a copy of your current CV (including education and employment for at least the last five years. If you have recently changed jobs to a resource teacher role, please ensure the new role is included as your current employment)
  • verified copy of your current practising certificate issued by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand (if a registered teacher with a current full practising certificate)
  • a summary of any short or long-term disability including learning disability or heath issue that may affect your study.

If you are not a registered teacher or you are a registered teacher without a current full practising certificate, you will also need to supply:

  • a completed NZ Police Request and Consent form, along with two pieces of verified identification (one of which must be photographic) from the list of acceptable forms of identification
  • a copy of a police report from every overseas country you have lived in for more 12 months in the last 10 years. Please do not supply originals as these will need to be supplied to the Education Council at a later date.

If you have been previously selected for and enrolled in a Specialist Teaching programme at Massey University you will apply online but will not go through the selection process.

Masters (Coursework)

Massey University's Master of Business Studies combines study of advanced theory with research. It gives you the skills you need to progress your career, or continue to further study.
Entry Requirements

To enter the Master of Business Studies you will have been awarded or qualified for a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification, with a minimum B- grade average in the highest level courses.

If you have been awarded the Degree of Bachelor of Business Studies with Honours, or the equivalent degree of another recognised university, you may apply for credit towards Part One of the qualification in accordance with the limits specified in the Recognition of Prior Learning regulations.

You will need to provide verified copies of all academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University.

Masters (Coursework)

The Master of Applied Linguistics provides professionals in all areas of second-language teaching (including Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) with a combination of professional and research skills which is increasingly important in both domestic and international settings.
Entry Requirements

To enter the Master of Applied Linguistics you will:

  • have been awarded or qualified for a bachelor degree with at least a B grade average across the 200-300 level courses, and
  • have completed relevant teaching and related experience approved by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences as appropriate for entry, or
  • have been awarded or qualified for a postgraduate diploma in second language teaching or a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics, or equivalent, with at least a B+ grade average for entry to the Research Pathway, or at least a B grade average for entry to the Coursework Pathway.

If you have a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics as outlined above, you may apply for credit towards Part One of the qualification in accordance with the limits specified in the Recognition of Prior Learning.

  • have been awarded or qualified for a bachelor's degree in teaching, or equivalent
  • hold registration as a teacher with a current practising certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand
  • have completed at least two years of relevant teaching experience.

You will also be selected into the programme on the basis of a process which includes providing:

  • copies of all academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University
  • a copy of your current curriculum vitae - including education and employment for at least the last five years.
  • details of your educational and professional qualifications, employment history with dates and descriptions of roles and responsibilities, membership of associations/organisations, and a list of professional publications and research reports.
  • a copy of your current practising certificate issued by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.

The selection process may also require the assessment of a professional portfolio.

If you have applied for a Ministry of Education study award and/or hold an Resource Teacher: Learning and Behaviour position, you should be applying for the Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching (Learning and Behaviour).
