Flinders University Courses

Applicants must hold an approved bachelor degree or equivalent qualification, and typically have achieved a Flinders equivalent grade point average (GPA) of 5.00 or above to be considered.

Applicants who did not achieve the minimum GPA in their completed approved bachelor degree or equivalent qualification, can also be considered on the basis of a second bachelor degree, graduate diploma or Masters degree of their choice, provided they have completed a minimum one semester of full-time equivalent study in one of these courses and they achieve a Flinders equivalent GPA is 5.00 or above in this study.

Applicants are advised a structured interview applies as part of the selection process. Applicants who meet the above requirements will be ranked on the basis of their GPA and may be shortlisted for an interview to fill the places available. The interview is approximately 20 minutes in length and normally held between mid-November to December. Applicants shortlisted for an interview will be contacted via email the week after the application closing date. Applicants can undertake the interview via Skype if interstate. South Australian applicants are expected to attend the interview in person.

Selection will be based on the rank applicants achieve from the combined scores of their structured interview and their best GPA achieved over a minimum of one semester of full-time equivalent study in one course.

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent from an approved tertiary institution. In addition, an application form and portfolio are required, including examples of creative work, for one or more of the positions in the creative team.

Masters

Applicants must hold an approved undergraduate bachelor degree or equivalent qualification with topics that enable them to teach to Year 12 in at least one subject specialisation and to Year 10 in a second subject specialisation offered by the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work.

Specialisations normally offered are: English, Drama, Mathematics, Modern Languages (restricted to Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Indonesian, German and Modern Greek), Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences), Visual Arts, Health Education, Outdoor Education, Physical Education, History, Geography, Business Studies, Legal Studies, TESOL, Nutrition, Tourism and Psychology.

Not all teaching specialisations are offered every year. If your teaching area is Physical Education, you must apply for the Master of Teaching (Secondary) – Physical Education (2CM227) to be considered.

Note that in South Australia, to teach to Year 10, four undergraduate semester topics in the teaching area are needed; and to teach to Year 12, six undergraduate semester topics in the teaching area are needed. Not all of the above curriculum areas are taught throughout Years 8 to 12.

The Master of Teaching is a pre-service teaching degree and admission normally will not be granted to applicants who already hold a teaching qualification. Selection is based on academic merit.

Masters

Applicants must normally hold an approved degree from an approved tertiary institution and typically have achieved a minimum of credit average. No specific undergraduate degree is required for admission.

Admission will be based on the highest GPA using a minimum of 18 units of a qualification from an approved tertiary institution.

Applicants are encouraged to research the career of an audiologist and health professional through making personal enquires and visits to clinical departments.
