Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
Applicants are also required to commit to off-campus field excursions (which may be overnight) throughout the year.
Holmesglen requires students to be aged 18 by February of the year they start the course. Students should also have the physical capacity to work in the field, where they may be required to assist with outdoor leadership equipment, while complying with all Manual Handling WHS legislation. A Working with Children Check is required due to the practical placement component of the course.
Applicants should have:
a desire to further progress their outdoor leadership skills and knowledge
a Certificate III or IV in Outdoor Leadership (or equivalent experience or qualifications)
experience and interest in the outdoors and nature
a mature attitude and approach to study
the ability to be flexible and show initiative
a desire to work with young people in a range of difficult and dynamic environments.
There are prerequisite studies for one of the units of competency within the program. Students are required to complete or have attained SISOCHC003 Lead challenge course sessions, high elements, before commencing and completing SISOCHC004 Set up and supervise challenge course sessions, high elements.
