Entry requirements

Holmesglen requires learners must be enrolled as a VETDSS or VCE VM in Secondary School and have an interest in both game development and IT Support.

Learners who undertake this program require digital literacy skills and the ability to:
* turn on a computer
* connect to the internet
* use a mouse, keyboard, headset with microphone or speakers and webcam
* open and close a software application
* conduct a search in a web browser
* send and receive emails
* save a file, and locate a saved file
* download and install the software application.

What you will learn

This two-year program is for secondary school learners taking on VET studies as part of their school enrolment. Over the course of the program, learners will be able to complete the qualification and have the option of undertaking a scored assessment.

During the first year of the program, learners will learn how to manage personally identifiable information (PII) and methods of creating 3D models using industry-standard software, such as Autodesk Maya, Adobe Photoshop, and Substance Painter. Learners will learn the basics of the C# programming language using the Unity Game Engine and work as part of a team to develop a game, all while developing a critical thinking mindset.

During the second year of the program, learners will explore additional IT skill sets. Where they will learn the skills to install and optimise operating system software, provide system administration, create system backups, and respond to and provide support to clients. They will also learn to provide and carry out maintenance and fault repair procedures on hardware and software. Finally, they will learn how to install, configure, and secure a small office network. All this will prepare them for the VCE examination.
