Domestic applicants who recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)

This course does not use ATAR as part of the admission process. To be an eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) or an equivalent qualification.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, you must have:

• Partially completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent). You must have completed at least one unit of study (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points) at 100 level or higher and which may include 100 level units completed in the UTAS Diploma of University Studies. If you have failed any units, your application may be subject to further review before an offer is made; OR
• Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, you must have completed a completed Certificate III or higher (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Applications on the basis of work or life experience

Applicants without senior secondary, tertiary or VET / TAFE study can complete a personal competency statement.

Applicants may be eligible for an offer if they have relevant work and / or life experiences which demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.

* Completed UTAS University Preparation Program or an equivalent enabling program offered by another Australian university; OR
* Successfully completed one (12.5 credit points) undergraduate units of study.

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed a Certificate III or above in any discipline.

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

Applicants without senior secondary, tertiary or VET / TAFE study can complete a personal competency statement.

Applicants may be eligible for an offer if they have relevant work and / or life experiences which demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course.

Subject Prerequisites

These prerequisites apply to students from all educational backgrounds.

Students intending to undertake the Maritime Technology Management major must have completed the following prerequisite unit(s) at TQA3 level, or equivalent:

Mathematics Methods (MTM415117) and Physical Sciences (PSC315118)

You can enquire online for information on interstate and international equivalents to the Tasmanian senior secondary subject above. If you have not met this prerequisite, you will need to complete a UTAS foundation unit before you start your course.

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5, or a PTE Academic score of 50, with no score lower than 42 or equivalent.

General Entry Requirements

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.

Students intending to undertake the Maritime Technology Management major must have studies or experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in the following Tasmanian Senior Secondary subjects:

• Mathematics Methods (MTM415117) or equivalent, and
• Physical Sciences (PSC315109) or equivalent (equivalency includes CHM415115 Chemistry OR PHY415115 Physics)

• have at least four years of industry experience in your intended teaching area

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, you must

• have completed a Trade Certificate (Certificate III), AQF Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or an equivalent qualification) in your intended teaching area; and
• have at least four years of industry experience in your intended teaching area.

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

This course is not available to students who apply based on work and life experience

Domestic applicants who recently completed secondary education

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. This course has a Guaranteed ATAR of 65.

In 2023, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 64. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

Partially completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must have completed at least two/four units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points) including Level 100 units successfully completed in the Diploma of University Studies at UTAS. If an applicant has failed any units the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made.

OR

Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).

• A bachelor degree in a health discipline, social work or psychology (AQF7/equivalent from a recognised institution)
• A bachelor degree (AQF7 equivalent) in another field, PLUS EITHER a year of full time (equivalent) work experience in dementia/aged care, neurobiology, heath systems/services or public health, OR successful prior completion of four units from the Diploma of Dementia Care (M1D)
• We recommend that candidates complete the Understanding Dementia MOOC prior to enrolment, if their previous degree is not related to dementia.

Admission to most postgraduate coursework courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects, and meet English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

Course Specific Requirements

• A minimum of an undergraduate degree from an Australian university at AQF7 level or the equivalent standard in a recognized tertiary institution, in the domains of Health, Social Work or Psychology.
• OR an undergraduate degree from an Australian university at AQF7 level or the equivalent standard in a recognized tertiary institution, WITH at least one year full time (or equivalent) experience in dementia care, aged care, neurobiology, health systems and services or public health
• OR an undergraduate degree from an Australian university at AQF7 level or the equivalent standard in a recognized tertiary institution, WITH successful completion of FOUR units from the Diploma of Dementia Care (DipDemCare, M1D).

The College of Arts, Law and Education may accept as a candidate for the Graduate Diploma of Tourism, Environmental and Cultural Heritage a person who:

a. has completed an undergraduate degree in any field;

b. has completed the Graduate Certificate in Tourism, Environmental and Cultural Heritage; or

c. has work experience at a management level of at least three years in a relevant field.

Domestic applicants who recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)

To be eligible for an offer, you must:

• Apply for, and be accepted into a Bachelor course at UTAS; and

• Have an ATAR of 90 or above. This is the minimum ATAR needed for your application to be considered. Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available.

Domestic applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for an offer, you must have:

• Have completed a course at Bachelor level within the past three years and have marks equivalent to a grade point average of 5.5 on a seven-point scale; or

• Be currently enrolled in a UTAS Bachelor degree, have completed at least six units of study (75 credit points) and have a UTAS grade point average of 5.5.

You can enquire online for advice on converting your results into grade point average on a seven-point scale.

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

Applicants are not admitted to this course on the basis of prior VET / TAFE study.

This course is only open to international students who are enrolled in a Bachelor degree onshore and who have completed one year of full time study. International students must be able to complete the Bachelor of Philosophy course requirements within the time permitted by the CoE for their principal degree.

International students should discuss the possibility of enrolling in the Bachelor of Philosophy with the BPhil course coordinator.
