This course uses ATAR and equivalent ranks as part of the admission process. Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available.

In 2021, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into the Bachelor of Science was 65.10. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your individual subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

Applicants with previous higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

• Completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent); or
• Partially completed a course at Associate Degree level or higher at any Australian higher education provider (or have partially completed an equivalent overseas qualification). Applicants must have completed the equivalent of at least two units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points). If an applicant has failed any units, the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made; or
• Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).

Applicants with previous VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed a Certificate IV (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Applicants with work and life experience

This course does accept applications based on work or life experience.

Prerequisites

These prerequisites apply to all applicants. Some majors require studies and experience equivalent to satisfactory performance in the following Tasmanian Senior Secondary subjects: Molecular Bioscience and Chemistry require senior secondary level chemistry; Mathematics and Statistics and Decision Science require the completion of Mathematics Methods; Physics requires senior secondary level Physics and Mathematics Methods.

Non-Academic Capability Assessment Tool (NACAT)

All applicants are required to provide a non-academic personal statement which is used to assist in the selection of students into all Initial Teacher Education (ITE) courses at the University of Tasmania.

This statement is submitted through the Non-Academic Capability Assessment Tool (NACAT) after you have completed your application and is used in conjunction with your ATAR score (or equivalent alternative entry.) All applicants must satisfactorily complete the NACAT before they will be provided with an offer into the course.

Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teaching Education.

Commencing students must attempt the LANTITE in their first year of study and are required to successfully complete the LANTITE prior to undertaking their final Professional Experience Placement.

Progression to Master of Teaching

To progress into the Master of Teaching component of the course you must attain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 or above (Credit average) in the first 100 credit points of undergraduate study. If you do not meet this GPA requirement you will be transferred into the Bachelor of Science with full credit. On completion of the Bachelor of Science you may apply to return and complete the Master of Teaching.

Admission to the Master of Speech Pathology is highly competitive and achieving the entry requirements does not guarantee an offer for this course. Applicants who meet the entry requirements are ranked and the number of offers are made based on the number of places available.

- This course requires a minimum GPA of 5 for prior tertiary education and equivalent ranks as part of the admission process.

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor or Master degree (other than Speech Pathology) from an Australian university or equivalent, and have completed, in the last 5 years, the equivalent of:

- one unit (12.5 credit points or equivalent) of human anatomy, including detailed head, neck and thorax anatomy
- one unit (12.5 credit points or equivalent) of linguistics
- one unit (12.5 credit points or equivalent) of study in research methods and/or evidence-based practice.

Applicants requiring additional study to meet pre-requisites should see 50G Undergraduate Certificate in Allied Health. Those units that are accepted as prerequisites for M7G are:

• CXA112 Anatomy and Physiology of Head, Neck and Thorax
• CXA113 Introduction to Linguistics for Speech Pathology
• Either one of the Research Methods units in the Certificate (CZZ103, PSY211, CXA328)

Safety In Practice Requirements
This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. You must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before census date of the first semester of your course. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately to the course admission application.

Conditional offers may be made, however, evidence of meeting English Language requirements must be provided before applicants commence study.
*Good academic progress must have been made with passes in more than 50% of enrolment in any given semester.
The IELTS result must be no older than two years and six months at the expected course commencement date.

A cognate undergraduate degree would be in the same or related area eg, maritime management, maritime operation, logistics management, supply chain management, and business management; or any Bachelor degree with a major in business, logistics management, and supply chain management

Cognate industry experience would be in the fields of maritime, transport, logistics and supply chain.

• An undergraduate degree from an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institutions; or
• A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma; or
• A qualification of AQF Level 6 or equivalent and a minimum of three years managerial working experience.
• International students with English as a second language will need to have an IELTS score of 6.0, with no band less than 6.0.

The duration of the program will depend on your background (see Course Structure tab). Holders of a cognate undergraduate degree or two year work experience are eligible for advanced standing (i.e. normally 1 semester of credit) and hence, a reduced duration (1.5 years).

A cognate undergraduate degree would be in the same or related area eg, maritime management, maritime operation, logistics management, supply chain management, and business management; or any Bachelor degree with a major in business, logistics management, and supply chain management

Cognate industry experience would be in the fields of maritime, transport, logistics and supply chain.

The College of Sciences and Engineering may accept as a candidate for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Maritime Management a person who has:

* An undergraduate degree of an Australian higher education institution or the equivalent standard in any other institution and at least two years' work experience (NOTE 1.); or,

* A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Maritime Management or a related discipline; or,

* A professional qualification such as a Certificate of Competency as a Master Class 1 (Unlimited) or Chief Engineer and at least two years' work experience; or,

* If a first degree or professional qualification is not held, candidates may apply to the Department of Maritime and Logistics Management for consideration as a candidate. These applicants are assessed on their work experience, current managerial responsibilities and any other qualifications.

* Applicants intending to undertake Maritime Technology Specialisation must have:

An undergraduate degree in engineering; or
A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Engineering; or
A professional qualification in engineering such as a Certificate of Competency Chief Engineer or Engineer Class 2.

NOTE: An applicant lacking the requirement of at least two year's work experience will normally need to complete Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management before being admitted to MBA in Maritime Management. In some instances, however, students may be admitted directly to MBA in Maritime Management but will still need to successfully complete all four units in their first semester of enrolment (i.e. the equivalent of Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management) in order to be allowed to continue in the course.

* Applicants intending to undertake Maritime Technology Specialisation must have:

An undergraduate degree in engineering; or
A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Engineering; or
A professional qualification in engineering such as a Certificate of Competency Chief Engineer or Engineer Class 2.

NOTE: An applicant lacking the requirement of at least two year's work experience will normally need to complete Graduate Certificate in Maritime Management before being admitted to MBA in Maritime Management.
