The value of professional certification to employers is high, and even for existing employees there is an ongoing need to maintain and build technical skills and knowledge.

The Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice offers you the opportunity to gain relevant, up-to-date skills and globally recognised certifications that differentiate you and increase your employability. Industry certifications will also facilitate a rapid lateral move into a defined discipline within the ICT industry if you have experience in other fields.

On graduation from the Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice you may choose to build on your achievements and broaden your skills and knowledge further by continuing your study in the Diploma of ICT Professional Practice or the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology with credit for your units completed as part of the Certificate.

Entry requirements

Applicants who have completed secondary education.

  • This course does not use ATAR as part of the admission process.
  • To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants with previous higher education study:

  • To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed at least one unit of study (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points) or completed the university preparatory program or equivalent.

Applicants with previous TAFE/VET study:

  • To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed Certificate III or above.

Applications on the basis of work or life experience:

  • This course accepts applications based on work or life experience.
  • Applicants who have not completed senior secondary, tertiary, or TAFE/VET study, but who have relevant work and life experience can complete a personal competency statement.

  • 2 Design and develop ICT solutions in accordance with professional practice and industry standards.
  • Course structure

    The Undergraduate Certificate in ICT Professional Practice is a 4-unit course that students can complete within one semester full time or 1 year part time to complete.

    Credit for prior study or work

    Any applicant that currently holds one or more of the certifications that is integrated into this course (e.g. through their own PD or through having taken one of the UTas, associated masterclasses) may be eligible for credit or recognition for prior learning upon application.
