Entry Requirements

In addition to the standard requirements for entry to a Doctoral Degree as defined in the Higher Degree by Research Admissions Policy, in the case of application for admission into a PhD by Prior Publication applicants must also: * present a coherent body of work comprised of pre-existing peer-reviewed outputs of recognised academic excellence that meets or exceeds the requirement for the award of Doctor of Philosophy as defined in Rule 4 * have been employed by, or associated with, the University for normally at least five years on a continuous basis, and be a staff member or adjunct/clinical title holder at the time of submission of the thesis for examination, and * provide evidence of ongoing mentoring (ie. supervision) or peer collaboration and review by a University of Tasmania research academic (or academics) with PhD qualifications during the period that the publications were produced. This requirement could be demonstrated by co-authorship of publications with research academics.

Domestic applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for an offer, you must have:

  • A completed AQF7 Bachelor Degree or above, or approved equivalent, in a cognate discipline, plus at least three (3) years' management experience.

An equivalent qualification from an overseas institution is as assessed by the University with reference to the equivalencies identified by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR).

To be eligible for the degree, you need to provide evidence that shows your work experience meets the minimum requirements. This includes submitting a copy of your CV and two letters of reference from your line managers or equivalent positions. The minimum level of management experience required is supervisory, team leader, or business manager experience. If you have worked as a sole trader or consultant, you must provide a copy of your CV and two testimonials or references from clients that provide evidence of capability consistent with the entry requirements.

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

Applications on the basis of work or life experience

Entry Requirements

As per Rule 4 and HDR Admissions and Enrolement Policy. Prior to applying applicant should find a potential supervisor and discuss their proposed topic. Applicants will be considered who have a Bachelor degree with upper second class Honours or higher from a recognised tertiary institution; a research Masters degree with at least two thirds of the degree comprising a thesis; a coursework Masters degree or Graduate Diploma which includes a research project or thesis of 10,000-20,000 words (minimum 25% research component of the entire degree): a qualification at a level from another tertiary institution considered equivalent by the Dean of Graduate Research. Note: International students must meet the University English Language requirement for admission.
