The government has announced new vaccination requirements for the health and education sectors. This qualification requires students to undertake placements in the community, including in schools/kura, community and social services, and/or health/medical facilities.

For this qualification, you will be required to be vaccinated in line with the NZ Government regulations, and supply evidence of your vaccination status.

Entry to the first year of the BSW(Hons) is open to everyone with entry to the University.

While no particular secondary school subjects are required, a background in subjects promoting communication skills such as English, history, geography, or te reo Maori is useful. Volunteer work in the community is also good preparation.

There are a few pathways for entry available:

• A previous relevant bachelor's degree, or appropriate health professional qualification, with good grades (normally a B Grade Point Average or better), and approval to enrol. Note: some conditions may be waived if you already have practical or professional experience in the field.
• This Master's is an ideal extension for those who have studied or are currently studying the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences or Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences.
• Nursing and Health Sciences - UC offers a unique qualification combination in conjunction with Ara Institute of Canterbury (Ara) allowing graduates to gain two qualifications: a Bachelor of Nursing and a Master of Health Sciences Professional Practice, in just two years. You will need to have achieved at least a B Grade Point Average in 300-level courses in an area which is relevant to Geographic Information Science eg, computer science, environmental science, the digital humanities, or any other relevant subject. Those who haven't previously taken GIS courses must complete 30 points of undergraduate GIS courses eg, GEOG205, GEOG208, GEOG323, or GISC422.

Students without a university degree can apply for entry with at least three years of previous relevant professional experience, which will need to be assessed and approved.

You will need a bachelor's degree (or equivalent), with a minimum of a B Grade Point Average in 300-level courses in a subject relevant to geospatial analysis. Alternatively, you can apply based on three years of relevant professional experience in a related industry.

To enrol in the MTESOL you must have qualified for a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent degree (a B Grade Point Average in 300-level courses is normally expected). Relevant work experience will also be considered.

Those wanting to enrol in the Postgraduate Diploma in Child and Family Psychology must have either:

• a bachelor's degree in Psychology, or
• any bachelor's degree, plus a Graduate Diploma in Arts or a Graduate Diploma in Science in Psychology.

You also need to have previously completed either a Postgraduate Diploma in Science or Part I of the Master of Science in Child and Family Psychology (or equivalent).

You must also either be currently enrolled in, or have completed, a 120-point thesis in Child and Family Psychology as part of a Master of Arts or a Master of Science, or a PhD in equivalent study approved by Amo Matua, Te Kaupeka Oranga | Executive Dean of Health.

• To enrol in the MSLP you must have completed any bachelor's or master's degree, with a minimum of a B Grade Point Average, or other qualifications of an equivalent standard.
• In addition you must have passed one course in each of the two following disciplines at 100-level or above: Statistics, and Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech, Hearing and Swallowing Mechanism (SPSC161 or equivalent).
• If English is not your first language, you must provide proof of IELTS (Academic) average of at least 7.0, with no score lower than 6.5.
• You will also need approval to enrol by the Amo Matua, Putaiao | Executive Dean of Science or a delegate. Selection is based on academic merit, a statement of interest, and an interview with departmental representatives.

The final vaccination mandate ended at 11:59 pm on Monday 26 September 2022 which applied to health and disability workers. Some employers/placement sites may still require workers to be vaccinated due to health and safety. As such, some clinical placements may be restricted for those students who are not fully vaccinated.

Entry into the Master of Speech and Language Pathology is limited. You will need to submit a separate application form to Te Kura Mahi a-Hirikapo | School of Psychology, Speech and Hearing by 1 October. Late enrolments will be considered if places are still available.

To enrol in the Graduate Certificate in Sport Coaching you must have one of the following:

• an approved bachelor's degree, or equivalent, or
• satisfactory evidence that, based on relevant post-secondary school study and work experience, you are suitably qualified for entry.

Approval of entry based on post-secondary school study and work experience would be likely to include a minimum of five years of sport-related work experience and accompanying industry qualifications (for example NZRU Advanced Coaching Course Certificate, NZ Football Senior Level 2 Coaching Certificate, or Advanced Youth Coaching Certificate). Approval for course entry in this instance would be determined by a Selection Committee from Te Kura Matai Hauora | School of Health Sciences.

For many of our programmes, you will not be able to complete research or practice-oriented courses if you are not vaccinated. This is due to research/practice taking place in health centres and schools/kura where all employees and volunteers are required to be vaccinated.

Students who have qualified for a Bachelor of Science with Honours or Postgraduate Diploma in Science can complete the MSc by Part II only (thesis-only) in their subject.

You will need to have qualified for an Aotearoa New Zealand bachelor's degree (or other qualifications of an equivalent standard).

You must also satisfy the prerequisites for a major subject. Prerequisites vary between departments, but normally good grades in 300-level courses in the subject is required.

If you do not meet the prerequisites in your chosen subject, you may be able to complete a qualifying course, or substitute relevant professional practice or other work experience that satisfies your ability to pursue postgraduate-level studies in that subject.
