Graduate Diploma

Main Campus
The Postgraduate Diploma in Hoaka Pounamu | Maori Bilingual and Immersion Teaching and Learning (PGDipHP) aims to develop high-quality graduates who will promote leadership and raise knowledge of te reo Maori in bilingual, immersion, and mainstream settings.
Entry Requirements

For entry to the PGDipHP, you need to have one of the following:

  • an Aotearoa teaching degree
  • any bachelor's degree with a major in Education or related subject, with at least a B Grade Average
  • a three-year diploma in Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary Teaching
  • equivalent study from other approved degrees.

The selection process also involves a hui with the Programme Coordinator to assess your level of te reo Maori fluency and ensure you will be able to succeed in your study.

Masters (Coursework)

Main Campus
Through UC's Master of Education (Thesis) (MEd(Thesis)), you will be able to expand your educational practice by completing original research in an area of education, from policy to current methodologies to new and emerging theories.
Entry Requirements

You will need to have either an honours or postgraduate diploma degree in Education, or an equivalent degree, with at least a B+ Grade Point Average.

Bachelor

Main Campus
The Bachelor of Social and Environmental Sustainability (BSEnS) explores the biggest global problems we have caused by injustice towards the environment and to communities, from pollution and climate change to world hunger.

Recommended preparation

Anyone from any study background will be able to study the BSEnS.

Interests in environmental science and sustainability, voluntary work, economics, or social change will be particularly useful to get the most out of study. Strong communications skills will also be very helpful.

Graduate Diploma

Main Campus
The Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Management (PGDipEM) combines your engineering knowledge with business and leadership skills by giving you real-world experiences and connections with industry.
Entry Requirements

You must have either a Bachelor of Engineering Technology, a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, a Bachelor of Science with Honours, or other qualifications of an equivalent standard, and have a GPA of at least 3 in your 300-level and higher courses. You can also apply for admission to the MEM based on previous studies and work experience, with approval.

You will need to have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of your previous degree. This may include practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course, and a first aid certificate.

If English is your additional language, you are also required to produce evidence of your English language ability with an IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0, with no individual score below 6.5; or other evidence acceptable to the College of Engineering Dean (Postgraduate).

Pathway to the Master of Engineering Management

You may choose to transfer your completed courses in the Diploma to the Master of Engineering Management programme. The MEM includes some additional compulsory and elective courses. You can apply to the MEM after you have passed your compulsory courses in the Diploma.

The Statement of Purpose helps us understand your reasons for applying, and to determine if you are a good match for an Engineering Management programme. In less than 500 words, describe to us why you are applying for the programme, and how you will contribute to the UC Engineering Management programme's collective aim and values. You may also be interviewed as part of the selection process.

Graduate Diploma

Main Campus
UC's Postgraduate Diploma in Translation and Interpreting (PGDipT&I) will develop your language expertise into a career as either a translator or interpreter.
Entry Requirements

You will need one of the following to apply to the PGDipT&I:

  • A bachelor's degree with at least 60 points in 300-level language courses at a B+ grade average, or equivalent level, from either Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, or Te Reo Maori
  • Any bachelor's degree with relevant professional or other work experience in one of the approved languages above, or another language which may be available on application
  • A Postgraduate Certificate in Translation and Interpreting with a B grade average or better
  • Extensive practical, professional, or academic experience that demonstrates your ability to complete postgraduate studies, and demonstrated equivalent competence in an appropriate language.

If English is your additional language, you are also required to provide evidence of your English language ability with the equivalent of IELTS (Academic) overall of 7, with no section less than 6.5.

Certificate

Main Campus
The Certificate in Indigenous Narrative (CertIndigNarr) will introduce you to indigenous storytelling in the digital media industry, from films to video games and more.

Main Campus
The one-year Diploma in Commerce (DipCom) gives you the opportunity to grow your skills in many business areas. This Diploma will suit anyone wanting to add business knowledge to their studies, or wanting professional development, but do not want to study the three-year Bachelor's degree.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Youth and Community Leadership (PGCertYACL) creates responders to and innovators of change. You will develop your own personal leadership identity, gain key action skills, and learn about improving issues faced by youth and other communities.
Entry Requirements

You will need to have completed an Aotearoa New Zealand bachelor's degree or a graduate diploma with an average B Grade Point Average or better, or have other approved qualifications of an equivalent standard.

UC's Master of Mathematical Sciences (MMathSci) offers flexible study to upskill in mathematics, data, and statistics.
Entry Requirements

You will need to have completed a bachelor's degree in a subject relevant to mathematics (or other approved subjects), and have passed at least 60 points of your 300-level courses with at least a B grade average.

You may also enrol with other relevant qualifications of an equivalent standard, with approval.

You will need a bachelor's degree in a subject related to Computer Science to enrol, with either:

  • a B Grade Average in 60 points of your 300-level Computer Science courses
  • a B Grade Average in 60 points of your 300-level courses, plus other approved qualifications, qualifying programmes, and/or experience in the field.

Graduate Certificate

Main Campus
The Graduate Certificate in Maori and Language Pedagogies: Aumiri Pounamu (GradCertMLP) gives our future and practising kaiako teachers the opportunity to develop their knowledge and confidence introducing our tamariki to the history, culture, and language of our indigenous communities.
Entry Requirements

The GradCertMLP is open to those who are provisionally certified as teachers, those that hold a subject to confirmation practising certificate, and full practising teachers.

You will need to have completed an Aotearoa New Zealand teacher education degree (or other qualifications of an equivalent standard) to enrol in this programme.

There will also be a hui with the Programme Coordinator as part of your application to assess your current level of te reo competency and ascertain the support you will need during study.

The digital screen sector is rapidly growing, in areas such as virtual production, 3D storytelling, virtual and augmented reality, and more.

Recommended preparation

The BDigiScreen(Hons) is open to anyone who gains entry to the University and no previous experience is required. All subjects are introductory, and your first year will cover broad experiences creating content across film, gaming, and digital media industries.

Some knowledge and passion for cinema, creative writing, sound or art design, or video game development will be especially useful.
