Entrance requirements for traineeships
You must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation to study an apprenticeship or traineeship.
In a traineeship you also gain hands-on skills and work experience, and improve your employment prospects, while earning a wage. On successful completion you will gain a nationally recognised qualification which can lead to rewarding career options. The difference between a traineeship and an apprenticeship is that a traineeship can be either a full time or part time employment based training arrangement, usually for a nominal duration of 12 months or more, generally in a non-trade related area.

The Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence - Helicopter) requires significant commitments in time to build skills and knowledge, and financial investment, before entering a lucrative career. SM TAFE aims to ensure students have what it takes to succeed.
To study this course you must be over the age of 18 years. To express your interest in this course you will need:
a Unique Student Identifier number
evidence showing you meet the minimum educational requirements
your visa or citizenship status
In addition, we will help to guide you through the additional evidence required for entry to the course at a mandatory information session:
a current Class 1 medical or equivalent (to satisfy CASA licencing requirements)
a Ready for work Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) approval
a CASA Aviation English proficiency assessment (GELP)
log book showing two hours in a VH registered aircraft with a CASA approved flight training provider to ensure that you can meet the physiological and psychological demands required for successful completion of the course; and to address and identify issues (such as airsickness or claustrophobia) so you are well informed about the nature of study and work in this industry
a mandatory pre-entry aptitude test
If seeking a student loan you must also demonstrate other minimum requirements that will be outlined at the session. Information relating to the dates and times of the pre-entry assessment and briefing sessions will be sent on application.

The CHC40421 Certificate IV Youth Work qualification covers workers who provide information, advice and advocacy and would also be appropriate for community education and policy workers. The qualification requires students to complete 17 units (15 core and 2 electives).
Students undertaking the course on campus are required to have successfully completed the CHC42015 Certificate IV in Community Services, which will allow them to apply for credit towards the CHC40421 Certificate IV Youth Work. The number of units for which credit will be granted will depend on the electives already completed in the Certificate IV Community Services. There is no cost associated with applying for and receiving credit. Note that online students are not required to have completed the CHC42015 Certificate IV in Community Services.
A work placement in industry is required to complete the CHC40421 Certificate IV Youth Work. Industry has advised that work placement for under 21 year old's is unlikely and without a work placement, students will not be able to successfully complete the qualification.
