Entry Requirements

This programme is a 'selected entry' programme. This means as well as applying you will need to provide additional material as part of your application.

To enter the Bachelor of Nursing you will hold a current First Aid Certificate from an approved provider.

You will be selected into the programme on the basis of a process which includes providing:

  • a personal supporting statement of about 300 words explaining why you wish to enter the nursing programme and profession, including why you feel you would make a good nurse. List any personal characteristics you have that demonstrate your suitability.
  • a curriculum vitae of approximately three pages, which should include your academic and work history
  • provide details of two character referees - these must not be family or friends
  • if you are applying straight after completing secondary school (or a course at a private training establishment) you will supply a confidential report from your school or institution
  • complete the vetting service request and consent form for a New Zealand Police check - a criminal record check under the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004
  • provide a current police certificate from any overseas countries you have lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years
  • complete the Health and Disability Declaration.
  • An interview may be required.

To become a registered nurse, you will also have requirements during and at the end of your study.

Entry Requirements

The Master of Applied Social Work is a selected entry programme. This means there are a number of extra requirements you must meet.

To enter the Master of Applied Social Work you will:

  • have been awarded or qualified for an undergraduate degree, either in the social sciences (such as social and cultural studies, psychology, human development) or an alternative degree with substantial relevant experience in a social or community setting
  • hold a driver's licence that is valid in New Zealand unless otherwise exempted
  • be selected into the programme on the basis of a process which includes:
    • providing a personal statement explaining why you wish to enter the social work programme and profession
    • providing two character referees - these must not be family or friends
    • providing a curriculum vitae that includes academic and work history
    • undertaking an interview.

You will provide verified copies of all academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University.

Once you are successful at gaining a place in the Master of Applied Social Work programme, you will also need to complete further tasks. These are to meet the requirements set down by the Social Workers Registration Act 2003 for registration as a social worker in New Zealand (to ensure you are a "fit and proper person to practise social work"). You will need to:

  • complete the vetting service request and consent form for a New Zealand Police check
  • provide a current police certificate from any overseas countries you have lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.

If English, Maori or New Zealand sign language is not your first language, you will need to provide official evidence of your English language competency in the form of:

  • an IELTS test with an overall academic score of at least 6.5, with no band score less than 6.5, taken within the preceding two years, or
  • a TOEFL internet-based test (IBT) score of 85 or higher with a writing score of 22, or
  • at least two years of successful study in a New Zealand secondary school, with at least 10 Level 2 NCEA credits in literacy (five reading and five writing), or equivalent.

Entry Requirements

To enter the Bachelor of Science (Honours) you will:

  • have been awarded or qualified for a Bachelor of Science degree, or close equivalent, in the intended postgraduate subject area, with a minimum B+ average in the majoring 300 level courses, or
  • have been awarded or qualified for a bachelor's degree followed by a Graduate Diploma in Science and Technology or close equivalent, in the intended postgraduate subject area, with a minimum B+ average in the majoring 300 level courses.

Entry Requirements

Te Aho Paerewa Postgraduate Diploma Teaching and Learning in Maori Medium is a selected entry programme. This means there are a number of extra requirements you must meet.

To enter this programme, you will:

  • have been awarded or qualified for a bachelor's degree of at least 360 credits with a minimum of a B grade average across the 200- and 300-level courses, or equivalent
  • have demonstrated fluency in te reo Maori at a level where you can sustain learning in a total immersion Maori environment
  • have demonstrated competence in literacy and numeracy
  • meet the requirements for registration as set down by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, in terms of good character and fitness to be a teacher.

You will be selected into the programme on the basis of a process which includes an assessment by Massey University academic staff. This may also include:

  • an interview
  • te reo and mathematics tests
  • practical exercises.

You will need to provide the following documents:

  • a supporting statement
  • a police vetting report
  • referee reports
  • two completed Te Kura Hapai forms from two different Kura Kaupapa Maori - Te Aho Matua.
  • a consent to the disclosure of information for a New Zealand Police check - including two pieces of verified identification (one of which must be photographic)
  • a copy of a police report from every overseas country you have lived in for more than 12 months in the last 10 years
  • a health and disability declaration
  • an NZQA International Qualifications Assessment
  • contact details of two referees

Entry Requirements

To enter the Master of Food Technology you will have been awarded or qualified for:

  • a bachelor's degree in food engineering, food science or food technology, with a minimum B grade average over the 200- and 300-level courses, or equivalent, or
  • a Bachelor of Food Technology with Honours having achieved at least Second Class Honours, or equivalent.

You will also provide a short summary of your research interests (200 words or less) with your application.

Entry Requirements

The Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) is a five-year degree divided into two phases:

  • a pre-selection phase (a minimum of one semester). Entry into the pre-selection semester is open to anyone who meets the Massey University admission requirements.

This is followed by:

  • a professional phase (9 semesters - 4.5 years). Entry to the professional phase is by selection in accordance with criteria established by the Veterinary Undergraduate Student Selection Sub-Committee, which will include consideration of academic performance, non-academic performance and relevant experience. Candidates from a country whose first language is not English must show evidence of English language competence that meets the requirements of the Veterinary Council of New Zealand as outlined in their Policy on English Competence.
