    Masters (Coursework)

    The Master of Forestry Science will give you a head start into forest management, governance, or research at an advanced level. This degree offers a flexible structure - depending on your goals and experience, you can study by examination and report, examination and thesis, or thesis only.

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants for the Master of Forestry Science must have a four-year Bachelor of Forestry Science, or other bachelor's degree in relevant subjects, or a Postgraduate Diploma in Forestry.

    The standard and relevance of previous study will be the criteria for selection, and for determining the options available in the degree.

    Master of Te Reo Maori

    Masters (Coursework)

    The Master of Te Reo Maori prepares graduates for a professional career in te reo Maori. It provides advanced knowledge of the language, and an introduction to research, emphasising linguistic competence and critical thinking about a range of contemporary and historical aspects of te reo.

    Entry Requirements

    Anyone wishing to enrol in the MTeReo must have either:

    • a bachelor's degree with a major in Te Reo Maori, with at least a B+ Grade Point Average in 60 points at 300-level; or
    • a bachelor's degree and a Graduate Diploma in Arts in Te Reo Maori, or another equivalent qualifying degree, with at least a B+ Grade Point Average in 60 points at 300-level; or
    • a bachelor's degree, and have both relevant professional experience and a high level of competency in te reo Maori; or
    • completed the four courses for the Postgraduate Diploma in Te Reo Maori with Merit or Distinction.

    Entry Requirements

    You will need to have achieved a bachelor's degree with First or Second Class Honours in a subject related to building design, or equivalent; or a postgraduate diploma in an equivalent subject.

    Those with a Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural Engineering with a B Grade Point Average or better can also apply for admission to the Master of Architectural Engineering.

    It is strongly advised to have at least one year of professional practice experience before applying. You will be approved entry based on the standard of your previous studies and work experience.

    • For the Structural Engineering endorsement (August start only), you will need to have completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (First or Second Class) in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
    • For the Building Services and Energy Engineering endorsement (start date to be confirmed), you will need to have completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (First or Second Class) in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.

    Those who do not meet the minimum requirements may be considered for entry to the Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural Engineering.

    Master of Audiology

    Masters (Coursework)

    The Master of Audiology (MAud) at UC focuses on training professional clinical audiologists. It comprises coursework, clinical practice in a variety of settings, and audiological research experience.

    Entry Requirements

    Admission to the Master's degree is based on the evaluation of your ability to undertake postgraduate study in a specialist field of inquiry or professional practice. The primary basis for selection is on academic merit, however consideration may also be given to other factors.

    The MAud does not require prior training in Speech and Language Therapy. You should have either:

    • a Speech and Language Pathology bachelor's degree; or
    • any bachelor's degree with relevant coursework (eg, Arts, Engineering such as Electrical and Electronic or Mechanical, Health Sciences, Science, or Teaching and Learning); or
    • been admitted with equivalent qualifications to the above by the University.

    Students with a different undergraduate background to that of the above, and with a strong achievement record, will still be considered. All students must be approved for study.

    One or more courses or research may require vaccination

    The final vaccination mandate ended at 11:59 pm on Monday 26 September 2022 which applied to health and disability workers. Some employers/placement sites may still require workers to be vaccinated due to health and safety. As such, some clinical placements may be restricted for those students who are not fully vaccinated.

    Entry into Year 1 of the Master of Audiology is limited. You will need to submit an enrolment application via myUC as well as a separate application form to Te Kura Mahi a-Hirikapo | School of Psychology, Speech and Hearing by 1 October.

    One or more courses or research may require vaccination

    The government has announced new vaccination requirements for the health and education sectors. At UC, our programmes are strongly connected to our communities of practice. For many of our programmes, you will not be able to complete research or practice-oriented courses if you are not vaccinated. This is due to research/practice taking place in health centres and schools/kura where all employees and volunteers are required to be vaccinated.

    For these courses you will be required to be vaccinated in line with the NZ Government regulations, and supply evidence of your vaccination status.

    Enrolment into the Taha Hinengaro - Health and Wellbeing Practice endorsement will require a vaccine.

    Recommended preparation

    The Bachelor of Communication is open to everyone with entry to the University and without previous study in the area. A good standard of spoken and written English is important.
