  • Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

  • Mathematics Methods (MTM415117) or equivalent
  • Physical Sciences (PSC315109) or equivalent (equivalency includes CHM415115 Chemistry OR PHY415115 Physics)

The Bachelor of Music with Honours degree is a 1-year (minimum) full-time course, offering specialisations in Performance, Creative Practice and Musicology The degree is for highly gifted musicians who seek to continue musical studies beyond the undergraduate level.
Entry Requirements

Admission to the Bachelor of Music with Honours requires:

  • Successful completion of a relevant bachelor's degree with a major in music with a Distinction (70%) average at the University of Tasmania or another approved tertiary institution, or equivalent industry experience
  • submission of a project proposal which can be supported by appropriate academic supervision, and
  • an audition and interview

Application requirements

Applicants are required to attend an audition and interview. Overseas or interstate applicants may submit a certified DVD, CD or private internet link of a recorded recent performance or portfolio materials.


Instrumental and vocal applicants should prepare a program of approximately 15 minutes duration, comprising three works of contrasting style. Composition, songwriter, commercial music creation and music technology applicants should present a portfolio of at least three works, including quality recordings of the best performances or realisations of their work.

For Semester 1 (February) entry:

If you have not successfully completed senior secondary, tertiary or TAFE/VET study, but have relevant work and life experience you can complete a personal competency statement.

If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors, including economic hardship, serious medical condition or disability.

We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.

This course includes compulsory field placements. In order to participate in field placements, all students must:

  • obtain a Tasmania Police Schedule 1 National Police Record Check and Working with Vulnerable Persons and Children Check; and
  • complete a Safety in Practice Agreement

All international students will need to meet the minimum English Language Requirements, University General Entry Requirements and any course specific requirements such as pre-requisite subjects, if applicable.

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 7.0, with no individual band less than 7.0. No equivalent tests accepted for this course.

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12th year of education in Australia.

Entry Requirements

Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Justice Studies with Honours:

  • must have qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Justice Studies, or another approved Bachelor degree, in this University or another approved tertiary institution with a weighted average of 70% of higher, in the 200 and 300 level units forming a major in the proposed Honours discipline of study or in the Core units of the degree.
  • if undertaking a combined honours program, should qualify for entry in both programs to be studied;

The Bachelor of Business with Honours degree allows students develop a body of research-relevant knowledge, skills and experience as preparation to undertake professional research work and/ or as a pathway into a research-focused Masters degree or Doctorate in the future.
Entry Requirements

Entry to the BBus Honours program is open to students who have completed the Bachelor of Business (or equivalent approved qualification) with an average of distinction or higher in at least 50% of the final year units of the pass degree.

Honours candidates in Management require an average of credit or higher for the 200 and 300 level units forming the relevant major(s) in their degree. Candidates in Management must also have passed the unit BMA331 Marketing Research or an acceptable equivalent unit.

Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor's degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.

English Language Requirements
