Graduate Certificate
The Postgraduate Certificate in Te Reo Maori (PGCertTREO) offers speakers the opportunity to further develop their language skills and receive professional recognition of their development. The PGCertTREO is an ideal option for those without previous university study in te reo, or university study in general, who have significant experience in the language and work in the Maori sector.
The Certificate also allows speakers of te reo Maori to enter into advanced postgraduate study in the Master of Te Reo Maori.
For the PGCertTREO you must have a relevant bachelor's degree, with a B Grade Point Average or better in 60 points of your 300-level major subject courses, and have had at least three years of experience in the Maori sector.
Those without a bachelor's degree must have extensive practical, professional, or scholarly experience of an appropriate kind.
All applicants will also be required to submit a portfolio of professional experience, and attend a selection interview.
For the full entry requirements, see the Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Te Reo Maori or use the admission requirements checker.
You can apply online at myUC. Find out more about how to apply for graduate and postgraduate qualifications.
You must also submit a portfolio of experience, including a personal statement, as part of your application to enrol. This will be followed by an interview.
Contact Aotahi: School of Maori and Indigenous Studies for more information on application requirements.
Students with formal recognition of their te reo skills will find work opportunities in a range of industries, for example within teaching, publishing, writing and translation work, government, communications and stakeholder engagement, and entertainment industries.
Graduates will also be able to contribute to the growing language revitalisation initiatives of iwi, and the culture and history of Aotearoa New Zealand.
