About this course

UC's Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching (PGCertCT) is designed for health professionals who are responsible for supervising, coaching, and supporting learning in clinical learning environments in a range healthcare settings. You will develop the skills to become a competent clinical educator, establish an identity, and gain leadership skills as a clinical supervisor both within your own profession and as a member of an interprofessional team.

The qualification is structured to ensure participants gain the skills required to undertake preparatory work towards a research or educational project grounded in practice. It will introduce you to the wider community and networks of health professional educators in Australasia and the extensive literature in this field.

The programme is delivered in consultation with local District Health Boards and regional education providers.

Entry requirements

To enrol in the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching, you must have one of the following:

  • a degree from an Aotearoa New Zealand university which is of relevance to clinical teaching and the proposed course of study; or
  • an appropriate health or allied professional qualification requiring at least three years full-time tertiary study at an appropriate level; or
  • qualifications and experience that accord with membership of an approved health professional association, or be registered to practice within a health environment.

If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet UC's English language requirements.

For the full entry requirements, see the Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching or use the admission requirements checker.

One or more courses or research may require vaccination

The government has announced new vaccination requirements for the health and education sectors. At UC, our programmes are strongly connected to our communities of practice. For many of our programmes, you will not be able to complete research or practice-oriented courses if you are not vaccinated. This is due to research/practice taking place in health centres and schools/kura where all employees and volunteers are required to be vaccinated.

For these courses you will be required to be vaccinated in line with the NZ Government regulations, and supply evidence of your vaccination status.
