Entry Requirements

Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

Prior to enrolling in this training program, you must be able to demonstrate an adequate level of language, literacy and numeracy skill, and vocational competency in your proposed teaching and assessing area.

In your application you will need to:

  • provide a Certified Copy of your current TAE40110
  • provide evidence of vocational competency in the area in which you intend to teach i.e. Certificate III in Commercial Cookery; Certificate IV in Engineering
  • provide your resume showing your experience using this qualification
  • undertake the TasTAFE LLN Assessment achieving an ACSF level 3
  • attend a short online interview to confirm your vocational competency and currency and your understanding of the completion requirements of the course (Interview not required for entry into Cluster 1 Enterprise Trainer - Presenting Skill Set).

You will require access to a vocational training and assessment environment to complete assessments such as group delivery and assessing students using National Training Packages.

You will also require access to a suitably qualified mentor holding TAE40116 or equivalent for some assessment observations.

*If you are unable to use your own workplace, you may be required to organise your own work placement in an environment that provides accredited training. In some situations a simulated environment may be an option depending upon numbers required to meet the training package requirements.

Entry Requirements

This course has the following essential entry requirements:

  • Ensure that the six month period during which you have police approval to enrol on a course has not expired (or will not expire before you can attend a course).

  • Complete the TasTAFE Enrolments form and sign the attached white sheet on the bottom where "Student signature" is shown, and attach payment (cheque, money order or credit card).

  • Create your USI.

  • Complete the Course Reservation Form. This will ensure that you have sufficient time to study and complete the pre-course examination.

  • Attach a copy of your letter from Tasmania Police approving your enrolment on a firearm safety course, then post or email your enrolment forms to TasTAFE:

  • Within 14 days of receipt of your enrolment form, course fees and course reservation form, TasTAFE will book you into the next available course and you will be sent a package containing a course date confirmation, learning materials and a pre course examination.

  • If you do not receive the package within 21 days of posting your enrolment form and course reservation form, telephone the course administrator on 6165 6482.

  • Within 21 days of successfully completing the course you will be sent a Statement of Attainment, a copy of which is also automatically sent to Tasmania Police, who will then continue with the processing of your licence and arrange for you to attend Service Tasmania and have your photograph taken before a firearms licence can be issued.

This course has the following essential entry requirements:

Prior to enrolling in this training program, you must be able to demonstrate an adequate level of language, literacy and numeracy skill, and currency in vocational teaching.

  • complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) assessment and achieve a competency of at least Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both language and numeracy
