    Entry Requirements

    School Leaver Non-School Leaver AQF
    Completion of WACE General or ATAR (Minimum C Grades) or equivalent Completion of WACE General or ATAR or equivalent (minimum C Grades) Certificate III

    Prospective students should hold one of the following:

    • A Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 35 metres Near Coastal) or
    • A Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Integrated Rating) with TAGS books and sea time or
    • An AMSA approved equivalent trade certificate.

    In addition to successful completion of this course, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) requires students to successfully complete each of the following to be issued with a new certificate of competency:

    • Meet medical test and eyesight requirements
    • Completed qualifying sea service time as either understudy of the officer in charge of a navigational watch or equivalent. Please refer to AMSA website below for further information
    • Pass a Final Assessment at an AMSA office.

    Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (Units 3 & 4, C); Mathematical Methods (Units 3 & 4, C); and one of Chemistry or Physics (Units 3 & 4, C).
    Studying Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C) and both Chemistry and Physics is recommended as students will have increased flexibility in their studies.
    Students without Specialist Mathematics and/or another high school prerequisite may be required to undertake preparatory courses beyond the 88 units for the program and may not be able to complete the program in the minimum time frame without overloading or undertaking summer study.     TOEFL iBT (including Paper Edition) - Overall 87, listening 19, reading 19, writing 21 and speaking 19.

    PTE Academic - Overall Score of 64 and 60 in all sub bands.

    BE - A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all macro skills.

    CES - Overall 176 and 169 in all sub bands.

    OET is not accepted.

    • OR a Graduate Certificate in Engineering Project Management.

    Students admitted to the program with a Bachelor Honours degree in Engineering or equivalent four year Engineering undergraduate degree or a Graduate Certificate in Engineering Project Management will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the program. The following degrees are considered to be equivalent to a Bachelor Honours degree in Engineering:

    • four year Engineering undergraduate degree that includes a significant final year research project component (one semester thesis) from an Australian university;
    • four year Engineering undergraduate degree that includes a significant final year research project component (one semester thesis) from a NOOSR Section 1 University.

    Note: Students currently enrolled in the Master of Engineering Project Management (5660) will be eligible to transfer to the Master of Engineering Project Management Advanced prior to graduation. Graduates of the Master of Engineering Project Management (5660) are not eligible for admission to this program.

Students that have already completed MAR50120 Diploma of Marine Engineering (Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal) are eligible to apply for a credit transfer to reduce the study load and overall course cost.
