A candidate with outstanding results in a subject prior to entering University may be permitted by the Head of Department concerned to enrol for a paper at 200-level without having satisfied the normal prerequisites.     Admission requirements are met by one of the following:

    • Successful completion of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (or equivalent) and the awarding of an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of at least 60*.

    • Successful completion of at least 0.5 year of full-time study (or equivalent) of a higher education degree/diploma.

    Student visas

    The Postgraduate Diploma in Arts Subjects (PGDipArts) requires two semesters of full-time, or its equivalent in part-time, study. It entails a structured programme of postgraduate coursework and, in some instances, a piece of supervised research that counts for one or two of the required papers.

    Entry Requirements

    1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities).
    2. Every applicant shall
      1. either have been admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Arts majoring in the subject or subjects of study proposed;
      2. or have been admitted with the status of one who is entitled to proceed to the diploma;
      3. or have a qualification acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and produce evidence satisfactory to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of ability to proceed to the diploma.

    The Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Management (PGDipEM) combines your engineering knowledge with business and leadership skills by giving you real-world experiences and connections with industry.

    Entry Requirements

    You must have either a Bachelor of Engineering Technology, a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, a Bachelor of Science with Honours, or other qualifications of an equivalent standard, and have a GPA of at least 3 in your 300-level and higher courses. You can also apply for admission to the MEM based on previous studies and work experience, with approval.

    You will need to have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of your previous degree. This may include practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course, and a first aid certificate.

    If English is your additional language, you are also required to produce evidence of your English language ability with an IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0, with no individual score below 6.5; or other evidence acceptable to the College of Engineering Dean (Postgraduate).

    Pathway to the Master of Engineering Management

    You may choose to transfer your completed courses in the Diploma to the Master of Engineering Management programme. The MEM includes some additional compulsory and elective courses. You can apply to the MEM after you have passed your compulsory courses in the Diploma.

    Entry Requirements

    To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.

    While there is no qualification entry requirement, it is assumed the learner is either already a tradesperson with access to structured on- and off-the-job training.

    It is recommended that applicants have completed Year 11 or equivalent, due to the literacy and numeracy requirements of engineering studies.

    It is recommended that learners wanting to enrol in this qualification contact the Engineering department to discuss the entry requirements.

    Entrance requirements for traineeships

    You must be employed in a training contract by an appropriate organisation to study an apprenticeship or traineeship.

    In a traineeship you also gain hands-on skills and work experience, and improve your employment prospects, while earning a wage. On successful completion you will gain a nationally recognised qualification which can lead to rewarding career options. The difference between a traineeship and an apprenticeship is that a traineeship can be either a full time or part time employment based training arrangement, usually for a nominal duration of 12 months or more, generally in a non-trade related area.
