    Note: The PMEG is currently not open to new enrolments. The Professional Master of Engineering Geology (PMEG) is the only programme of its kind in Australasia.

    Entry Requirements

    The PMEG is currently not open to new enrolments.

    You will need to have either:

    • a Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology or Earth Sciences; or
    • a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours majoring in Civil, Environmental, or Natural Resources Engineering; or
    • recognition of prior learning/work experience as assessed by the Programme Director.

    In addition you will need 15 points of MATH 100-level courses and 15 points from STAT 100-level courses. This requirement may be waived by the Head of Department if you can demonstrate an existing level of ability in mathematics and/or statistics.

    If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet UC's English language requirements.

    Relevance of undergraduate studies to Engineering Geology and the standard of achievement are the main criteria for approval. You may be required to pass a qualifying programme prior to commencing the PMEG.

    A relevant tertiary qualification plus work experience may be deemed appropriate to meet the prerequisite training. You may also be required to complete preparatory courses prior to entry in this case.

    Students entering with a Bachelor of Science in Geology or Earth Sciences will normally be required to have passed GEOL351 Advanced Field Techniques and GEOL352 Advanced Field Mapping, and 60 other points in GEOL 300-level courses (with a Grade Point Average of normally a B) that meets the approval of the Head of Department.

    Financial engineering is a cross-disciplinary field combining financial and economic theory with the mathematical and computational tools needed to design and develop financial products, portfolios, markets, and regulations.

    Entry Requirements

    To enrol in the Master of Financial Engineering you should have:

    • a bachelor's degree with a B+ Grade Point Average in 300-level courses; and
    • completed specified 200-level MATH and STAT courses (or equivalent courses); and
    • been approved to enrol.

    If you have a minimal statistics and finance background, you may be required to take FIEC601 Quantitative Finance and Economics in January-February before enrolling.

    Entry Requirements

    To enrol for the Postgraduate Certificate of Architectural Engineering (PGCertArchEng) you must have completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, or equivalent.

    If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet UC's English language requirements.

    It is strongly advised to have at least one year of professional practical experience before applying. Your application will be approved based on the standard of your previous studies and work experience. Students will normally be expected to have at least a B Grade Point Average in their 300-level courses.

    NCEA

    You should aim to have at least:

    • 14 credits in Level 3 maths or calculus including both differentiation and integration
    • 14 credits in Level 3 physics
    • 14 credits in Level 3 chemistry.

    Note:
    Achievement standards 91578 - 'Apply differentiation methods in solving problems' and 91579 - 'Apply integration methods in solving problems', must be included.

    Chemistry is not required for students taking Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Software Engineering.

    18 credits are strongly recommended in all subjects.

    International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

    You will need to have:

    • Minimum of 4 HL (or 5 SL) in maths (HL is recommended)
    • Minimum of 4 HL (or 6 SL) in physics (HL is recommended)
    • Minimum of 4 HL (or 6 SL) in chemistry.

    Chemistry is not required for students taking Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Software Engineering.

    Cambridge International Examination (CIE)

    You will need to have:

    • Maths and physics - D grade or better at A level or A in AS level
    • Chemistry - D grade or better at A level or A in AS level.

    Chemistry is not required for students taking Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Software Engineering.

    Alternatively the first year can be completed in more than one year (maximum of two years) with a minimum requirement of:

    • CIE Score of 140 Points
    • D Grade at A-Level or C Grade at AS-Level in Mathematics
    • D Grade at A-Level or C Grade at AS-Level in Physics
    • preferably C Grade at AS-Level in Chemistry (discipline specific).
    Top achievers

    Students who have achieved excellent results in all relevant subjects may be able to get direct entry into the second year.

    Alternatively, a Modified First Year is offered to students who have taken the MATH199 or relevant STAR Science courses, and/or have achieved excellent results in some subjects. You may be exempt from taking some of the required courses in the first year and offered advanced/interest courses in their place.

    Introductory pathway

    If you did not achieve enough credits, you can take introductory courses in specific subjects to start with (eg, MATH101, PHYS111, and CHEM114). You could then take the first year courses in Semester 2 and over summer, or do an extra year of study.

    Masters (Coursework)

    The Master of Music allows students to take composition or performance studies to a more advanced technical level, and to gain breadth and depth of appreciation in their specialist field. It is an ideal pathway for those interested in undertaking a completely research-based degree.

    You must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor of Music with Honours with at least a B Grade Point Average, and been approved to enrol. You should choose courses carefully to ensure prerequisites have been met.

    This endorsed research degree is completed by a thesis and coursework. It aims to provide a research-focused learning environment in which you can develop your independent problem solving skills through supervised research. The degree may be awarded with Distinction.

    • Bachelor of Engineering with Honours with First or Second Class Honours
    • Bachelor of Science with Honours with First or Second Class Honours, in relevant subjects
    • Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering with a GPA of 5 or more.

    You must have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of your prerequisite degree. This includes practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course, and a first aid certificate. The programme of study must be approved.

    Entry Requirements

    You must have either a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, a Bachelor of Science with Honours, or other qualifications of an equivalent standard, and have a GPA of at least 4 in your 300-level and higher courses. You can also apply for admission to the MEM based on previous studies and work experience, with approval.

    You will need to have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of your previous degree. This may include practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course, and a first aid certificate.

    If English is your additional language, you are also required to provide evidence of your English language ability with an IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0, with no individual score below 6.5; or other acceptable evidence.

    Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Management pathway

    You may choose to first enrol in the Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Management and later progress into the full MEM programme. The Diploma includes most of the compulsory courses as the MEM, and you will attend the same classes as MEM students.

    You must have either a Bachelor of Engineering Technology, a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, a Bachelor of Science with Honours, or other qualifications of an equivalent standard, and have a GPA of at least 3 in your 300-level and higher courses. You can also apply for admission to the MEM based on previous studies and work experience, with approval.

    You will need to have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of your previous degree. This may include practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course, and a first aid certificate.

    If English is your additional language, you are also required to produce evidence of your English language ability with an IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0, with no individual score below 6.5; or other evidence acceptable to the College of Engineering Dean (Postgraduate).

    Pathway to the Master of Engineering Management

    You may choose to transfer your completed courses in the Diploma to the Master of Engineering Management programme. The MEM includes some additional compulsory and elective courses. You can apply to the MEM after you have passed your compulsory courses in the Diploma.

    Doctorate (PhD)

    The DMA is aimed at those wishing to undertake advanced research in music composition or performance. It involves scholarly research, in the form of a supervised research thesis, and performance practice (such as a public music performance or the presentation of compositions).

    The DMA requires a Master of Music with Distinction or Merit, or a Bachelor of Music with Honours with First or Second Class Honours (Division I).

    You will need to have achieved a bachelor's degree with First or Second Class Honours in a subject related to building design, or equivalent; or a postgraduate diploma in an equivalent subject.

    Those with a Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural Engineering with a B Grade Point Average or better can also apply for admission to the Master of Architectural Engineering.

    It is strongly advised to have at least one year of professional practice experience before applying. You will be approved entry based on the standard of your previous studies and work experience.

    • For the Structural Engineering endorsement (August start only), you will need to have completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (First or Second Class) in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
    • For the Building Services and Energy Engineering endorsement (start date to be confirmed), you will need to have completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (First or Second Class) in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.

    Those who do not meet the minimum requirements may be considered for entry to the Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural Engineering.

    Master of Audiology

    Masters (Coursework)

    The Master of Audiology (MAud) at UC focuses on training professional clinical audiologists. It comprises coursework, clinical practice in a variety of settings, and audiological research experience.

    Entry Requirements

    Admission to the Master's degree is based on the evaluation of your ability to undertake postgraduate study in a specialist field of inquiry or professional practice. The primary basis for selection is on academic merit, however consideration may also be given to other factors.

    The MAud does not require prior training in Speech and Language Therapy. You should have either:

    • a Speech and Language Pathology bachelor's degree; or
    • any bachelor's degree with relevant coursework (eg, Arts, Engineering such as Electrical and Electronic or Mechanical, Health Sciences, Science, or Teaching and Learning); or
    • been admitted with equivalent qualifications to the above by the University.

    Students with a different undergraduate background to that of the above, and with a strong achievement record, will still be considered. All students must be approved for study.

    One or more courses or research may require vaccination

    The final vaccination mandate ended at 11:59 pm on Monday 26 September 2022 which applied to health and disability workers. Some employers/placement sites may still require workers to be vaccinated due to health and safety. As such, some clinical placements may be restricted for those students who are not fully vaccinated.
