<div>Great customer service and product knowledge are the keys to standing out to an employer. This highly practical programme will help you to develop this knowledge and build confidence interacting with customers. You'll also gain an understanding of operating procedures in restaurants, bars and cafes through a combination of practical skill and theoretical knowledge. Whether you wish to become a barista, bartender, food server or wine waiter, this programme will help you to hone your skills and knowledge and will set you up for employment or further study in these areas.</div>

New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service with Barista and Restaurant Services Strands

<div>This work-integrated course is free if you're working in a food and beverage business for a minimum of 20 hours per week, and you're not enrolled in any other tertiary programme. This is a great way to upskill and gain a formal qualification while you continue working. You, your employer and Ara | Te Pukenga will enter into a training agreement that provides you with an individual training plan and regular feedback as you progress through it. You'll receive on-job training and coaching from your employer and our industry training professionals. You'll also gain knowledge and practical training at our specialist barista labs, in our training restaurants and cafes, and by using our online barista training package. Then, you'll be able to showcase your excellent service and communication techniques through practical, on-the-job assessment opportunities. </div>

This course explores system architecture and organisation of personal and enterprise-level computer systems. You'll learn how to configure a system with emphasis on network resources, management of services, processes, memory and storage.

<div>Dual Enrolment programmes are FREE if you're in Years 11, 12 or 13 and a great way to earn NCEA credits and get a feel for tertiary study, while you're still at school. Gain an introduction to the automotive and engineering trades through hands-on experience in a range of skills including welding, collision repair, machine and hand tool operation, general engineering tasks and basic automotive servicing skills. This programme will enable you to make an informed decision about your future study and career pathways. This programme is delivered two days per week (Thursdays and Fridays 9:00am - 3:00pm). Location: Woolston, SIT *Places are limited and funding is dependent on availability. Some courses may incur costs, depending on the learner's eligibility. </div>

Manufacturing and Technology Vocational Pathway (Automotive & Engineering) Two Day DE

<div>This three-year degree programme will enable you to apply for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand. You will gain an understanding of the many opportunities available for a career in nursing and be challenged to go beyond traditional health and illness care and focus on creating a supportive environment for health and wellbeing. This programme is highly regarded nationally and combines theory with clinical experience and meets the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) Competencies for the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice. We will give you the opportunity to explore the diverse environments and relevant cultural understandings that nurses work within from hospitals, rest homes and health clinics to private practices and community care agencies. Ara frequently leads the sector for graduate outcomes. In 2020, we achieved a near-perfect result with 98.5% of graduates in employment within three months of completion (according to the most recent 'New Graduate Destinations' survey, conducted by Nurse Education in the Tertiary Sector at the end of November 2020). <div>Our IT industry partners have significant input into the structure and content of this programme to ensure that what is being taught continually meets industry needs.The first year covers a broad range of ICT topics that will provide you with a solid base of knowledge in software engineering (programming), hardware and networking, website development, IT tools and concepts and mathematics skills relevant to IT.In years two and three you'll choose one of three specialist pathways: Information Systems, Networking and Infrastructure or Software Development. During this time you'll develop in-depth knowledge of your chosen area through a range of compulsory and elective courses.You'll also develop skills in problem solving, critical thinking, analysis, team work, project management, time management, self-reliance and communication skills. There is a strong emphasis on practical skills and work-readiness, so wherever possible, theory is integrated and applied to practical tasks.Many courses include group activities or group projects, as the ability to work as part of a team is strongly valued by employers.In the final semester you'll put all of your acquired skills and knowledge into practice in a 45-credit capstone project (in most cases for a local business). The project is an excellent opportunity to equip yourself with real-world IT experience and to learn from industry people. It also results in a substantial piece of work with which to demonstrate your potential to prospective employers. Part-time up to 5 years.This leads to the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technologies. </div>

Bachelor of Information and Communication Technologies (Software Development Pathway)

<div>Health promoters aim to achieve optimal health and wellbeing for all through sustainable behaviour change, supported by changes in the environments in which we live, work and play. Their work supports the holistic health of individuals, communities and populations, empowering them to lead a healthier lifestyle. This contributes to a reduction in the risk of disease and premature death, while positively impacting on all dimensions of health. Employment opportunities for health promoters are diverse. Graduates of this programme have gone on to work for Smokefree New Zealand, Ryman Healthcare (resident wellness programme specialist), Sport Canterbury, New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (road safety co-ordinator), Christchurch City Council (Active Communities co-ordinator) and regional sports trusts, while others have become teachers of PE and health. The degree covers a broad range of health-related topics from cultural awareness and exercise prescription to health promotion to human nutrition. It will equip you with the communication, problem-solving, critical analysis and teamwork skills required within the multidisciplinary field of health promotion. You'll study theory, participate in practical sessions and benefit from work placements with health promotion-related organisations (e.g. Community and Public Health | Te Mana Ora, Maori and Pacific health providers and workplace wellness). Part-time up to 6 years. </div>

Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Promotion)

<div>Midwives work with women to provide care in pregnancy, childbirth and up to the first six weeks of a baby's life. Recognised by the Midwifery Council of New Zealand, our three-year degree uses blended delivery techniques to enable you to study and work in Christchurch, Nelson/Marlborough, the West Coast or South Canterbury. All sites are supported by a midwifery lecturer who'll provide individual support, organise face-to-face tutorials, facilitate your online studies and coordinate local practice experience for you in your own region. The degree is made up of theory and practice undertaken over 45 weeks each year and includes compulsory block weeks in Christchurch. Topics covered include midwifery practice skills, nutrition, lactation and bioscience foundations. You'll learn about Maori health, integrated midwifery practice and rural midwifery practice to allow you to adapt to the wide range of needs and circumstances encountered in midwifery. You'll also follow at least 25 women throughout their midwifery care and facilitate 40 births in a variety of maternity settings. By the time you graduate, you'll possess a good understanding of how to assess the social, psychological, physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs of each woman and her family, enabling you to support them through the childbirth experience. <div>This programme has been designed to ensure that when you graduate you'll have the knowledge and skills needed for this dynamic industry, and that you can be a flexible, future-focused, creative leader who can adapt to changing circumstances. Your studies will cover: hospitality and tourism trends; marketing strategies for local and international hospitality and tourism contexts; financial management strategies; business analysis for hospitality and tourism; communication; self-management; problem solving; teamwork and planning. In addition, you'll explore New Zealand's heritage and indigenous Maori culture, and gain an understanding of sustainability issues relating to tourism, such as its impact on the environment. You'll learn how to operate in a broad range of contexts and you'll examine the technology used in the industry (including the impact of social media on marketing, revenue management, customer relationships, and reputation management). Much of your study will take place in simulated tourism and hospitality environments using authentic situations. You'll also undertake a research project investigating a real-world hospitality workplace issue, and work experience within the sector. To meet Health and Safety requirements, applicants must be physically able to undertake the practical components of the programme in an industry emulated environment.</div>
