Diploma of Clinical Coding

Clinical coders play an essential role in Australia's healthcare system by ensuring the quality and accuracy of important health data.

As part of this online course, you will develop the knowledge needed to apply coding to medical information.

You will learn how to:

• interpret health care records and clinical documentation
• use correct medical terminology
• undertake basic to moderately complex clinical coding.

Once you finish this course, you'll have acquired the skills and knowledge needed to gain employment as an entry-level coder.

Entry-level clinical coders are responsible for the coding of moderately complex medical records.

They produce health data that:

• meets national and jurisdictional reporting requirements
• assists in health service planning
• monitors patient safety
• assists in research
• underpins information for the hospital funding models.

You may be able to complete your qualification sooner through formal recognition of your existing skills. This is known as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

To receive RPL, we assess your previous work, education and life experiences against recognised qualifications. Applications for RPL can be made prior to enrolling.
