Bachelor of Business (Property)

From day one, you will progress through a series of property courses covering the physical, economic, planning and legal aspects of property, as well as specialist areas including property valuation, agency and management, and property funds management.

This degree is the longest-running specialised undergraduate property degree in Australia. It is accredited in Australia and internationally by:

• the Australian Property Institute (API)
• Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)

You can also gain practical experience through an experiential elective or participate in a business simulation project. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to register as a Land Valuer with the Office of Consumer and Business Services, South Australia.

Between now and 2020, employment in the property and real estate profession in Australia is expected to grow. The availability of roles is projected to increase by 5.6 per cent for land economists and valuers2.

Careers to consider:

• Commercial property analyst: researching market trends and statistics to forecast the industry future; determining the best use of finances; performing due diligence research in order to broker real estate deals; working with sellers and buyers
• Land and property valuer: providing advice on financing and valuation; analysing investments; managing portfolios; calculating values by considering market demand, future trends and other factors; valuing office, retail, industrial and residential properties for sale and purchase, bank lending and preparation of financial statements
• Portfolio manager: making investment decisions and carrying out investment activities on behalf of clients or institutions; implementing investment strategies; managing day-to-day portfolio operations
• Property developer: researching land and property opportunities and evaluating the feasibility of a project; assessing the best use for the land or property; planning the property development, including the schedule and costs; working with architects, builders, and local councils
• Property funds manager: providing advice for clients on where and how to invest; improving the value of a property; implementing an investment strategy; managing portfolios of trading activities
• Sales and leasing consultant: developing and implementing sales and leasing proposals for commercial land and property; negotiating lease and sales transactions; generate listings and service existing client sales
