You can study for the DipLang alongside any degree or take it alone and study part-time. Choose from a wide range of languages, with courses available for beginners as well as students with prior knowledge. Become a more aware global citizen as you develop an informed, in-depth understanding of another culture. Use your study of another language to enrich your interests in art history, literature, history, film, music, international relations, linguistics or international business. Knowledge of another language can also benefit postgraduate study and research. Equip yourself with a distinctive skill set which can enhance your career options in our globalised economy.

Course structure

  • This is a 120-point programme consisting of eight 15-point courses.
  • It includes courses in one or two foreign languages.
  • At least half your courses will be at more advanced levels, including at least two courses at Stage III.
  • Your level of competence will be assessed during enrolment to ensure you begin your study at the right level.
  • The DipLang is normally taken part-time and is equivalent to one year of full-time study.
  • The time you take to complete will depend on how you structure your enrolment.
  • You have considerable flexibility as to how you structure your study.
  • As part of your DipLang you may also be able to count one or more language courses you have taken towards another programme. (This includes General Education courses.)

  • Not all language courses can be taken for the DipLang. You must choose your courses from those listed in the DipLang schedule.
