About this course

Management is about relationships - the art and science of people and process. Study the Bachelor of Business (Management) and you'll gain an understanding of how business operates and how to effectively manage resources and operations. This programme is designed with teamwork and project based coursework to best prepare you for success in the workplace. The second year narrows your focus on your choice of either Human Resources or Operations, and you will then apply what you've developed in your Internship Based Learning (IBL) work placement, so you get practical experience before you even graduate.

Human resource management focuses on understanding people and relationships at work, and how these can be moved and changed as needed. You'll learn about human resource (HR) strategy and planning, recruitment, selection, training, development, performance management systems and employment contracts.

Operations focus on designing and controlling processes. You'll learn about a broad range of operations functions, including forecasting, inventory management, process improvement, work methods, production planning, quality and supply chain management.

Marketing and Management

Upon successful completion of this programme, you can go onto further study in Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Business or Master of Applied Business programmes.

Domestic students

Academic requirements

You must have completed at least one of the following:

NCEA entry requirements;
- A minimum of 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework, with
14 credits at Level 3 or higher in each of two subjects from an approved subject list,
14 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional domains on the National Qualifications Framework,
14 credits at Level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the National Qualifications Framework,
Successful completion of an approved qualification at Level 3 or above with a relevant pathway, where appropriate.

And meet one of the English entry requirements;

University Entrance Literacy: 8 credits at Level 2 or above in English or Maori (4 in Reading, 4 in Writing); or
Evidence of English language proficiency as outlined in the NZQA Rules on the Unitec English Language Requirements for International Students Web-page.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age when they begin their studies, and they should meet the country-specific admission requirement,

And English entry requirements;

If English is not your first language, you will also need at least one of the following qualifications:

An equivalent of IELTS (Academic) with minimum band scores of 6.0 with no individual band lower than 5.5 from one test taken in the preceding two years,
Evidence of English language proficiency as outlined in the NZQA Rules on the Unitec English Language Requirements for International Students Web-page.; or
University Entrance Literacy: 8 credits at Level 2 or above in English or Maori (4 in Reading, 4 in Writing); or
