his extended major is only available to students who are offered an Assured Pathway to the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.
It covers pre-clinical biomedical and podiatric health sciences as well as foundations of podiatric clinical skills. It draws on all biomedical scientific disciplines to understand and manage human disease and illness. It contains foundational learning about the role of a podiatrist and introduces the student to pre-clinical podiatry training.

Career pathways

This extended major course prepares MJD-PHMSC graduates with the clinical and professional attributes required for successful entry to the entry-to-practice Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree.

Graduates from the MJD-PHMSC are also eligible to apply to the Community Services & Health Industry Skills Council to register and work as Allied Health Assistants in Podiatric practice - with the foundational podiatry skill set developed in level 3 of the major.

Successful graduates of this extended major, are eligible for credit towards the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine course. Graduates will be able to complete a five-year (rather than 6 year) pathway, to achieve a Bachelors degree with an extended major as well as a professional extended Masters degree in Podiatric Medicine.

The DPM is an entry to practice professional degree, which means that graduates of the DPM degree are eligible for registration as a Podiatrist with the Podiatry Board of Australia, immediately on graduation from the DPM course. They can then work as a Podiatrist in government or hospital clinics, private podiatric and multidisciplinary practices or university-based podiatry clinics.
