About this course

The Bachelor of Accounting allows students to develop skills that are fundamental to evaluating, analysing and communicating the financial position of an organisation or individual. The Bachelor of Accounting is designed to prepare individuals in the core areas of financial accounting, management accounting, finance, tax and auditing, in addition to economics and company law.

To comply with the National Threshold Learning Standards for accounting, the teaching and learning activities and assessment tasks in the course are designed to instil a range of skills including oral, communication, presentation, critical analysis, problem solving and group work skills. Students with studies in Accounting find rewarding work in industry, commerce, the public sector, the financial industry or business consulting and public accounting.

The intent of the course is for graduates to have well-developed attributes which will equip them for their early career and life. Specifically graduates will potentially be:

Course structure

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Accounting, students must complete 300 credit points comprising of:

  • 8 core units of study (100 credit points) AND
  • 8 units of study from the Accounting major (100 credit points) AND
  • 8 units of Secondary Studies (100 credit points) comprising of a second major, minor/s, or electives OR
  • 16 units of study from the (Accounting and Financial Planning major) (200 credit points)

Students may not complete more than 125 credit points (normally 10 units) at Introductory Level. A unit of study can only be counted once, where units are shared between majors and/or minors, students must choose an approved alternate.Maximum Academic CreditThe maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Bachelor of Accounting is 150 credit points (normally 12 units)
