About this course

The Master of Information Technology (Computer Science) is accredited by the ACS, the professional association for Australia's technology sector.

Our world is more interconnected now than it's ever been, thanks in large part to digital technology and the tremendous advances in computer technology. Computer science - encompassing the study of computing hardware and software - is what lies at the heart of this acceleration towards innovation.

The Master of Information Technology (Computer Science) is a multi-faceted qualification with a flexible course structure, allowing you to major in computer science. If you come from an IT background, you will receive advanced standing in recognition of your experience, and have the opportunity to attain a computer science masters qualification in as little as 18 months (full time study).

The course is also ideal for those coming from a background other than IT. The extended 2 year full time program - perfect for a career shift - will help you build a solid foundation in real world IT-practice, which you will then leverage as you take a deep dive into the field of computer science.

You will explore a range of topics including network security, software development and applications, algorithmic processes, data structures, JavaScript programming, and the UX design principles that inform the development of clean and accessible user interfaces.

By understanding the core principles that underlie computer science, you will open up a range of exciting career opportunities, and find yourself well-placed to work for a range of IT service providers, consultancies and vendors.

The skills you acquire are highly translatable, relevant for professional work in government departments, and a range of private sector industries that include finance and banking, health care, advanced manufacturing, engineering, mining and agriculture and more.

"What we focus on at QUT Online is we look at the other skills the industry is looking for, things like communication, creative mindset, problem solving, these are really core to how we teach what we teach and will set you apart when it comes to going for your first interview after graduation." ~ Information Technology - Lauren Fell
