About this course

Athletes and coaches aren't the only leaders in the sport industry. We also need professionals to help run and promote sporting teams, organisations, venues and events. Strong future growth is predicted in sport administration, meaning there's never been a better time to build your sport business skillset.*

La Trobe's Diploma of Elite Sport Business lets you turn your passion for elite sport into a career. You'll gain the business expertise and practical skills to help sporting organisations and teams achieve success. Immerse yourself in a real elite sport environment by studying at the home of the Carlton Football Club - the Carlton College of Sport campus at Ikon Park.

Through 100 hours of placement with the club, you'll work closely with industry experts, coaches and elite athletes. You'll build your professional experience and network, while gaining firsthand business insights.

Alongside this, you'll develop your strengths as a business leader and find out how organisations reach their professional goals through strategy and marketing. You'll also discover the ways that business data can be harnessed to enhance the performance of sports businesses and teams.

Graduate with job-ready skills suited to entry-level roles in sport administration. Furthermore, you'll have the opportunity to continue growing your business skillset. You'll be eligible to gain direct entry into a La Trobe business degree where you can specialise in areas like sport management, marketing and digital business.

You'll learn:

  • Sport management
    • Learn how to use strategy, organisational structures and policies to reach professional goals.
  • Media and marketing in sport
    • Examine the marketing of elite sporting organisations and develop the tools used to manage the relationship between sport and the media.
  • Business data analysis
    • Discover how to apply statistical concepts and use this information for business solutions and decision making.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 5 - Diploma.
