La Trobe's Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Psychological Science prepares you for a range of career pathways in general nursing, psychology or specialised mental health nursing practice.

Study clinical nursing subjects and practise nursing care for people of all ages, including those with long-term illnesses and mental health conditions or emergency needs.

Gain a foundational understanding of cognitive, developmental, social, abnormal, clinical and health psychology. Learn to carry out, analyse and interpret research studies and develop your skills in psychological assessment and intervention techniques.

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Psychological Science, students must complete a total of 480 credit points across 4 years.

Year 1 requires the completion of 120 credit points including:

  • 120 credit points from chosen Core

Year 2 requires the completion of 120 credit points including:

  • 105 credit points from chosen Core
  • 15 credit points from chosen Electives

Year 3 requires the completion of 120 credit points including:

  • 45 credit points from chosen Capstone
  • 75 credit points from chosen Core

Year 4 requires the completion of 120 credit points including:

  • 30 credit points from chosen Capstone
  • 90 credit points from chosen Core

As a graduate, you'll have flexible pathways towards careers in clinical nursing, specialised mental health nursing practice, rehabilitation counselling or psychology. In addition to more traditional nursing roles, the Bachelor of Psychological Science allows you to work in a range of organisations including research institutes, hospitals, schools, human resources, marketing and advertising, recruitment, counselling and statistics.

Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Nursing is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council. The Bachelor of Psychological Science (MEL) is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. Professional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia will require an APAC-accredited fourth year and additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree as well as an application to the professional body. Graduates of the Bachelor of Psychological Science (MEL) may apply for membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Membership may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.
