This participatory digital badge offers you opportunities to learn the role that treaties have played and might play in relations between First Nations peoples-places and contemporary settlers.

This online course consists of 12 hours of self-study engagement with online learning materials, the contribution to discussion boards and the completion of quizzes over a 2 week period plus 2 x 1-hour weekly webinars.

This course will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding the concept of lawful relations between Indigenous peoples and settler states.
  • Exploring the development of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and its strengths and weaknesses in advancing lawful relations between Indigenous peoples and settler states.
  • Understanding the relationship between international legal frameworks and the emerging treaty processes in the Northern Territory and other Australian jurisdictions.

This short course is suitable for government officials, legal professionals and people from community organisations. Upon the completion of your study, you will receive a digital badge by Charles Darwin University.
