Greenhouse and Global Warming (Non-Award)

This short course provides a basic introduction to physical, chemical and biological processes in science and technology within the context of current environmental issues. The course assumes limited knowledge of science and mathematics and participants can be Science students or from other disciplines.

This micro-credential explores the physical basis of the greenhouse effect, the role of greenhouse gas emissions, global warming trajectories and climate change ramifications. This provides a basis for understanding the greenhouse issue, climate change consequences, sea level rise and other effects. The influence of rising temperature and heat in urban environments will also be examined.

Participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate knowledge of the greenhouse effect, global warming and ramifications
• Critically evaluate the accuracy of precedents and predictions of associated carbon dioxide levels, sea level rise and warming based on scientific data.
• Understanding of the influence of temperature in urban environments and heat mitigation options.

A commitment of 10 hours per week over 6 weeks is required including classes, readings, investigation and assignments.
