Transferring to AUT (recognition of prior learning)

You may be eligible to enter Year 2 or Year 3 of our design degree if you have completed all or part of a design or visual arts degree at another approved tertiary institution. Applications for cross-credits will normally be assessed after you receive an offer of place for Te Tohu Paetahi mo te Hoahoa - Bachelor of Design.

Minimum entry requirements

A bachelor's-level degree (or higher) in a subject considered relevant for teaching in a New Zealand secondary school.

  • You will be required to provide official transcripts of your qualifications (if you are still completing your degree, please provide a transcript showing the results of all courses completed so far and the courses you are currently enrolled in).
  • If you have a qualification from another country, an assessment of your overseas qualification by the New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA) may be required for salary assessment purposes upon completion of this programme.

Teaching subjects
  • All applicants must have a senior (Year 11-13) and a junior (Year 9-10) teaching subject area supported by relevant courses in their degree
  • Applicants must have at least one appropriate 300-level course in their senior area and one 200-level course in their junior area
  • In practice applicants need a range of appropriate courses to teach in their subject areas. You are also expected to have good grades. We will work with applicants to identify appropriate teaching subjects.

Doctorate (PhD)

The Doctor of Health Science fulfils today's industry needs, enabling health professionals to pursue research that is directly relevant to their workplace. AUT is the only university in New Zealand to offer the Doctor of Health Science.

Applications are welcome at all times during the year.

Acceptance is subject to the availability of staff for supervision, prior research preparation and appropriate facilities.

Minimum entry requirements

Must have completed the following in a specialisation appropriate to the proposed research:

  • Master's degree with honours OR
  • Bachelor's degree with honours (equivalent to 4 years of study)

The degree must have a standard equivalent to first class or second class (first division) honours.

The degree should include advanced learning in research, execution of a research project and a written report on the research.

AND

A minimum of five years' professional experience in the specific area of study

The Master of Health Science is an advanced postgraduate qualification for health practitioners who want to further their knowledge through research to advance their career.
Entry Requirements
Minimum entry requirements

An applicant must have completed one of the following with a B grade average or higher, or equivalent:

  • Bachelor of Health Science
  • Graduate Diploma in Health Science

Staircasing options from the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science or Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science are also available.

Alternatively, students can negotiate a research or individual pathway with the Associate Dean Academic.

International student entry requirements

Other requirements
  • Provide evidence of having completed an acceptable undergraduate research course or equivalent
  • An applicant may be asked to provide evidence of current professional practice
  • An interview may be required
  • May be required to meet Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act) and Children's Act 2014 requirements and other relevant legislation
Psychology Specialisation
  • An applicant for the Master of Health Science in Psychology must have the personal qualities that show suitability for this programme, and may be required to attend selection interviews
  • An applicant for the Master of Health Science in Psychology will be required to supply references and satisfy a police vetting process
