    This programme is a selected entry programme. This means there are a number of extra requirements you must meet.

    To enter the Bachelor of Aviation programme, you must pass NCEA Level 3/Year 13 or equivalent in an 'English-rich' subject. These include one of the following:

    • classical studies
    • English
    • geography
    • history
    • history of art
    • media studies
    • religious education (RE)
    • business studies
    • biology
    • economics.

    When you first apply online you need to:

    • provide a CV including academic and work history
    • have completed a trial flight
    • provide any information of circumstances in your past personal or professional life that might make you ineligible to train for, or hold, a professional pilots licence in New Zealand (see below for more information).

    If you already have a NZCAA Class One Medical Certificate please also upload a copy with your application. But this is not essential for your initial application.

    Professional Entry

    The Professional Entry pathway has two entry points catering for basic and advanced levels of qualifications and experience.

    To be eligible for admission with 80 credit points of advanced standing, a student must have the following:

    • Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
    • Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating (MECIR)

    Upon acceptance, students will be granted 80 credit points of advanced standing on the basis of their qualifications and experience.

    To be eligible for admission with 160 credit points of advanced standing, a student must have the following:

    • Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) [granted in accordance with current CASR Pt 61 provisions or equivalent provisions]
    OR
    • Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) theory examinations passed (ATPL frozen) AND be currently cleared to line with an airline operating CASR 25 / FAR 25 aircraft type(s)

    Upon acceptance, students will be granted 160 credit points of advanced standing on the basis of their qualifications and experience.

    Applicants should upload a copy of their pilot licence with their application. If applicable, copies of authorised examination and assessment report/s and a letter from their employer which states that they are cleared to line and that the airline operates CASR 25 / FAR 25 aircraft types should be attached.

    • To be eligible for entry, you must have successfully completed one of the following combinations of qualification and relevant work experience. For all qualifications, a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 out of 4.0, or a minimum of 60% average, is required.
    • Bachelor Honours (Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level 8) in aerospace engineering or aviation.

    • Bachelor (AQF level 7) in aerospace engineering or aviation and two years of relevant work experience.

    • Bachelor Honours (AQF level 8) in a non-cognate area and five years of relevant work experience including one year at manager level.

    • Note: Aerospace engineering and equivalent areas (aeronautical engineering, avionics engineering, etc.) and aviation and equivalent areas (aviation management, air transport management, etc.) are considered to be cognate areas.
    • Qualifications are provided with the corresponding AQF level, and international qualifications are assessed according to this framework. Equivalent qualifications to those stated will also be considered, e.g. if you have been certified by Engineers Australia as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), this is considered equivalent to a Bachelor Honours (AQF level 8) in Engineering. Similarly, if you have been certified by Engineers Australia as a Chartered Engineering Technologist (CEngT), this is considered equivalent to a Bachelor (AQF level 7) in Engineering.
    • Relevant work experience is considered to be in aviation or a related industry. In some cases it is required that work experience is at manager level. Applicants applying on the basis of any work experience must provide a letter from their employer(s) (or equivalent) verifying their roles and the duration of these. Years of work experience are considered in terms of full-time equivalence.
