    English Language Proficiency Requirements

    If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America, you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.

    Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:

    • A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent); or
    • An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) diploma level qualification, or
    • Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years full time with a minimum overall GPA 4.0

    completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland or United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

    If you do not satisfy any of the above, you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

    • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subset; or
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - requires 550 or better overall and minimum TWE score of 4.5 (Paper Based Test), or 75 or better overall and no score less than 17 (Internet Based Test); or
    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - requires an overall score of 54 with no sub-score less than 46; or
    • An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.

    English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study, and must appear on a single result certificate.

    Entry Requirements

    For admission to the Master of Arts Research, an applicant is required to hold:

    • a postgraduate qualification with a GPA of at least 5.0 in a related discipline
    • OR a Bachelor degree with at least Second Class Honours (Division B) in a related discipline.

    In addition to the academic qualifications required for candidature as described in above, the following criteria need to be satisfied for admission:

    • the proposed topic is appropriate for higher degree research and consonant with the academic aims and objectives of the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science.
    • the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science is able to provide the necessary research place, supervision, resources and facilities; and there is an appropriate fit between the applicant, research environment, available resources and supervision.
    • there are two qualified members of staff holding confirmed, continuing or fixed-term appointments of sufficient length for the purposes of supervision.
    • the proposed program of work can be completed within the maximum period of candidature for the degree.
    • the proposed research does not reproduce research that has previously been submitted for the award of a degree or diploma.
    • the proposed program conforms to the University's ethical guidelines on research involving humans and animals.
    • where the intellectual property rights of the applicant may be a consideration, a suitable agreement protecting the rights of the student has been signed. Should a student be unwilling to sign an agreement, the research proposal may not be approved and the student may be required to choose another program of study.
    • the provision of educational services consequent upon approval of the application for candidature will not expose the University to a risk of contravening any applicable law, including any international embargoes, sanctions or controls which regulate the University's operations from time to time.

    Entry Requirements Completion of a Bachelor degree such as Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Creative Arts, or other approved award at USQ or another accredited tertiary institution, with a minimum GPA of 5. 0 A minimum of two years professional experience in the Creative Arts field.   You must have completed a major in a creative arts discipline area previously or have equivalent professional experience You are also required to include a report of no more than five pages, addressing the criteria below, and a 300 word description of the proposed project. Please advise the following: how your proposed research will advance your professional knowledge in a manner that is appropriate to your career progression/aspirations how your proposed research will evaluate and critically analyse a range of theories and methodologies pertaining to your sector/field in the creative arts how your proposed research will be managed and evaluated - detail the resources you will need to complete this project (include equipment, personnel etc) what your perceived outcome is for this research/project and who (other than yourself) stands to benefit from your research/project.  Students intending to undertake research or project work should note that selection of any research topic is subject to the availability of an appropriate supervisor and students must accept faculty guidance in their selection.     • have achieved a grade point average of at least 5.0 in their undergraduate degree
    • have negotiated one supervisor who is available and willing to facilitate the student's requirements
    • prospective students must confirm prior to application that their chosen project can be conducted within the appropriate concentration area, that is, check the availability of resources, supervision etc.
    • submit a proposal outlining the nature of the Research Project they wish to undertake
    • applicants are required to present a current folio of their most outstanding work.
