    Graduate Certificate in Arts

    Graduate Certificate

    The Graduate Certificate in Arts is designed to enable graduates who wish to expand on their undergraduate program or who wish to change the direction of their focus and pursue studies in an area of personal interest. Students select a single major or area of study on which to focus their studies.

    Entry Requirements

    A candidate shall:

    (a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification with a major in a non-relevant discipline;
    or

    (b) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification in a relevant discipline*.

    The Bachelor of Music with Honours program is designed to allow well qualified graduates in Music or Music/Teaching to extend their studies by pursuing specialist Music research and creative portfolio projects.

    Entry Requirements

    1. Admission to candidature shall be determined by the Head of School on the recommendation of the course coordinator.

    2. Except as provided in Rule 3, a candidate for admission to the honours course shall:

    (a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Education (Secondary Music) from the University of New England;
    and

    (b) have attained a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (Credit);
    and

    (c) have achieved 18 credit points at Distinction level or better in 300-level units in Music;
    and

    (d) have passed units to the value of at least 60 credit points in Music, except that with the approval of the relevant Head of School, up to 12 credit points in another subject may be substituted;
    and

    (e) have fulfilled any additional requirements prescribed and published by the school or area concerned.

    3. With the approval of the Head of School a person who has fulfilled the requirements of an equivalent AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification of a university or other institution and who meets requirements considered by the school to be equivalent to those specified in Rule 2 (b), (c), (d) and (e) may be admitted to the honours course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Music with Honours.

    4. The candidate shall pursue a music topic for which the University can provide adequate supervision.

    The Master of Applied Theatre Studies provides students with a unique opportunity to study applied theatre and performance at a postgraduate level entirely via distance education. This is currently the only course of its nature in Australia.

    Entry Requirements

    A candidate shall:

    1. (a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification with a major or equivalent in Theatre Studies and have 2 years' experience as a performer or director or designer or playwright or teacher;
    or

    (b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Bachelor with Honours or AQF Level 9 Masters qualification in a relevant discipline*;
    and

    2. All applicants must submit a preliminary research proposal (approximately 500-800 words) which should:

    (i) describe their proposed creative project for the Master of Applied Theatre Studies;

    (ii) include a rationale for the choice of creative work in the context of the overall research project and explain why this is significant;
    and

    (iii) include a short reference list.

    Applicants are advised to discuss this proposal with the course coordinator before submission.

    This course was previously known as the Diploma in Music Skills. This program provides students with music training in an online environment.

    Entry Requirements

    A candidate shall be qualified for admission (see
    Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Rule
    and
    Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Procedures
    )
    ;
    and

    (a) shall complete a satisfactory written personal statement assessed by the discipline within six months prior to the date of enrolment;
    and

    (b) shall have on admission to the degree a performing standard equivalent to Grade 6 of the Australian Examinations Board demonstrated via audition or music performance qualifications;
    and

    (c) shall have on admission to the degree a music theory standard equivalent to Grade 4 of the Australian Music Examinations Board demonstrated via music performancequalifications or the successful completion of a music theory test set by the Music Discipline Convenor.

    OR

    Former or current UNE students may transfer into the Diploma in Music on the basis of previous Music studies completed as part of a University of New England degree where they have:

    (a) completed MUSI121 with a Credit grade or higher;
    and

    (b) completed MUSI101 or MUSI110 or MUSI111 with a Credit grade or higher.

    (a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Media and Communications from the University of New England;
    and

    (b) have attained a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (Credit);
    and

    (c) have achieved 18 credit points at Distinction level or better in 300-level units in their chosen area of study;
    and

    (d) have passed units to the value of at least 48 credit points in the subject in which the candidate wishes to proceed;
    and

    (e) have fulfilled any additional requirements prescribed and published by the School or area concerned.

    1. Admission to candidature shall be determined by the Head of School on recommendation of the Course Coordinator.

    2. Except as provided in Rule 3, a candidate for admission to the honours course shall:

    (a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws or Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degrees in The University of New England;
    and

    (b) have attained a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (Credit); and

    (c) have achieved 18 credit points at Distinction level or better in 300-level units in their chosen area of study (18 credit points at High Distinction level in 300-level Japanese language units) ;
    and

    (d) have passed units to the value of at least 48 credit points in the subject in which the candidate wishes to proceed, as prescribed in the Additional Requirements which follow these rules;
    and

    (e) have fulfilled any additional requirements prescribed and published by the school or disciplines concerned.

    3. With the approval of the Head of School a person who has fulfilled the requirements of an equivalent AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification of a university or other institution and who meets requirements considered by the school to be equivalent to those specified in Rule 2.(b), (c), (d) and (e), may be admitted to the honours course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honours.
