The Certificate in Visual Arts is made up of four courses from the first year of our Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Creative Media Production and Bachelor of Maori Visual Arts programmes.

Applicants may be required to submit a portfolio of work and attend a selection interview
Admission is based on the submission of a proposal outlining the territory of exploration, and the nature of the project to be undertaken by the applicant. It is useful and usual for potential applicants to make an appointment to discuss their interests, before submitting their proposal.
English language requirements
IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher; or equivalent
Spatial designers create places for people to live, work, play and imagine. Study the Spatial Design major to prepare for a career designing interiors, furniture, exhibitions, events, outdoor spaces, retail environments, scenes for stage and film, and art installations.
The Master of Design is a postgraduate design degree that advances your design expertise and empowers your decision-making.

You must have completed at least one of the following:
Successful completion of an appropriate qualification at Level 4 or above in an art- or design-related subject, where appropriate; or
NCEA requirements are a minimum of 42 credits achieved at NCEA Level 3 or higher, including:
14 credits in two art or design-related subjects
14 credits from two (maximum) other subjects (approved or non-approved courses)
14 credits achieved at NCEA Level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau.
And meet one of the English entry requirements;
University Entrance Literacy: 8 credits at Level 2 or above in English or Maori (4 in Reading, 4 in Writing); or
Evidence of English language proficiency as outlined in the NZQA Rules on the Unitec English Language Requirements for International Students Web-page.

Product Design combines creative design, science, engineering, and business studies. Product designers plan and develop items for use in homes, businesses, and industry.
Entry Requirements
Admission to UC with University Entrance (or equivalent) is required to enrol.
If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet UC's English language requirements.

Recommended preparation
Entry to the BProdDesign is open to anyone with entry to the University. However, it is strongly recommended that you have at least 14 credits in NCEA Level 2 science and mathematics. Those intending to take the Chemical Formulation Design major should ideally have 14 credits in NCEA Level 3 chemistry (or the IB/CIE equivalent of these).
Secondary school studies in related subjects such as digital technologies, technology, or design and visual communication would be an advantage.
