    The Professional Master of Geospatial Science and Technology (PMGST) equips current and future geospatial professionals with experience in GIS and location data analysis, for leadership roles in government, industry, and research.

    Entry Requirements

    You will need to have achieved at least a B Grade Point Average in 300-level courses in an area which is relevant to Geographic Information Science eg, computer science, environmental science, the digital humanities, or any other relevant subject. Those who haven't previously taken GIS courses must complete 30 points of undergraduate GIS courses eg, GEOG205, GEOG208, GEOG323, or GISC422.

    Students without a university degree can apply for entry with at least three years of previous relevant professional experience, which will need to be assessed and approved.

    • a bachelor's degree in any subject, normally with at least a B Grade Point Average in 60 points of 300-level courses in the majoring subject; or
    • a bachelor's degree and a qualifying course, with at least a B Grade Point Average in 60 points of 300-level courses; or
    • a bachelor's degree, and evidence of relevant professional or other work experience; or
    • other approved qualifications of an equivalent standard.

    COVID Vaccination

    While vaccination against COVID-19 is not mandatory for enrolment and completion of a Youth and Community Leadership qualification, many opportunities in the community sector include working with vulnerable populations.

    We strongly encourage full vaccination to protect yourself, the vulnerable youth and communities we work with, and to allow you to access the full range of options available to you during and after your study.

    Recommended preparation

    The programme is open to anyone from a range of interests or experience in leadership roles. No particular background study is required. A passion for social change, community work, and volunteering is the best preparation.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills will be especially useful.

    The Master of Music allows students to take composition or performance studies to a more advanced technical level, and to gain breadth and depth of appreciation in their specialist field. It is an ideal pathway for those interested in undertaking a completely research-based degree.

    Entry Requirements

    You must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor of Music with Honours with at least a B Grade Point Average, and been approved to enrol. You should choose courses carefully to ensure prerequisites have been met.

    The government has announced new vaccination requirements for the health and education sectors. This qualification requires students to undertake placements in the community, including in schools/kura, early childhood centres, or health/medical facilities.

    For this qualification, you will be required to be vaccinated in line with the NZ Government regulations, and supply evidence of your vaccination status.

    The Master of Health Sciences Professional Practice is a 180-point, professionally focused, coursework-based master's degree.

    Entry Requirements

    There are a few pathways for entry available:

    • A previous relevant bachelor's degree, or appropriate health professional qualification, with good grades (normally a B Grade Point Average or better), and approval to enrol. Note: some conditions may be waived if you already have practical or professional experience in the field.
    • This Master's is an ideal extension for those who have studied or are currently studying the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Sciences or Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences.
    • Nursing and Health Sciences - UC offers a unique qualification combination in conjunction with Ara Institute of Canterbury (Ara) allowing graduates to gain two qualifications: a Bachelor of Nursing and a Master of Health Sciences Professional Practice, in just two years.     Masters (Coursework)

    This endorsed research degree is completed by a thesis and coursework. It aims to provide a research-focused learning environment in which you can develop your independent problem solving skills through supervised research. The degree may be awarded with Distinction.

    Entry Requirements

    You must normally have completed one of the following:

    • Bachelor of Engineering with Honours with First or Second Class Honours
    • Bachelor of Science with Honours with First or Second Class Honours, in relevant subjects
    • Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering with a GPA of 5 or more.

    You must have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of your prerequisite degree. This includes practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course, and a first aid certificate. The programme of study must be approved.

    Entry to the Master of Criminal Justice requires a Bachelor of Criminal Justice with a B Grade Point Average or better in 60 points of 300-level courses, or an approved equivalent degree.
