    Additional entry requirements Applicants must also attend an audition involving participation in Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance Technique, Repertory and Improvisation. The Audition Panel, comprising lecturing staff of the Adelaide College of the Arts and Flinders University and a physiotherapist, will assess and score each student. This score will form part of the non-academic criteria for admission at both TAFE SA and Flinders University. Applicants will be mailed an audition pack by TAFE SA once an application has been submitted and will be contacted to book an audition time. For applicants using their SACE (Year 12) results (or equivalent), entry is subject to achieving a minimum selection rank of 60. Applicants who do not meet the University’s minimum entry requirements may still be considered for admission subject to meeting certain conditions. Applicants will start in the TAFE component and upon completing the equivalent of a Certificate III/Diploma (for example) will have their University offer confirmed.     For admission as a candidate, an applicant will:

    • hold a bachelor degree with first-class or second-class honours (Division A) or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution or
    • hold a masters degree from a recognised institution or equivalent qualification deemed by the Dean, Griffith Graduate Research School to be of a standard comparable at least to a bachelor degree with second class honours (Division A) or
    • possess a record of research or a qualification granted by a professional or other body, deemed by the Dean, Griffith Graduate Research School to be of a standard comparable at least to a bachelor degree with second-class honours (Division A)
    • have been enrolled in a research Masters degree at the University for not less than one year as a full-time candidate and two years as a part-time candidate and will have had their work as a research Masters candidate certified by the Dean to be of a standard required for candidature in a professional doctorate.

    Students admitted to the Doctor of Musical Arts program will normally have at least five years professional experience.

    A portfolio assessment and/or interview will be part of the admission process. If specialist equipment or computer programs are required, this must be stated within the application. In cases where the candidate does not meet all formal criteria, the Dean, Griffith Graduate Research School can establish equivalence on the basis of curriculum vitae, portfolio and publications.

    If you have relevant prior learning or experience, you can reduce the number of courses you need to complete and graduate in less time.

    • a bachelor honours degree (or equivalent)* in a relevant discipline (see below).

    You must have a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.

    *You must have completed a substantial research project in your Honours degree equivalent to at least one semester of full-time study (or part-time equivalent).

    Relevant disciplines for previous qualifications

    Relevant disciplines include studies in performance, composition, musicology, or music education*.

    *For the field of music education, a degree qualifying a person to become a classroom music teacher satisfies the requirement.

    You must have completed at least a major, field of study, or approximately 30% of program content in the discipline, including a mix of introductory and advanced courses.

    Use the GPA equivalent as a guide. When you apply, we'll calculate your GPA using the UQ grading scale. Any failing grades will be included. Entry requirements are subject to change.

    Student visas

    International students who are accepted into full-time study in the Master of Music are eligible to apply for an Australian student visa (subclass 500).
