    Entry Requirements

    You will need the following:

    1. 48 credits at NCEA Level 2 in four different subjects including:

    • 12 credits in Mathematics (preferably in algebra, geometry and trigonometry) or equivalent
    • 8 credits in English (4 in reading, 4 in writing)

    High levels of oral, written and interpersonal communications and mathematical skills are required to complete this programme.

    2. If English is not your first language, you will need one or more of the following:

    • Have achieved NCEA Level 3 and New Zealand University Entrance
    • Be able to provide evidence you satisfy our criteria for existing English proficiency
    • Have achieved at least one English proficiency outcome in the last two years

      1. be a graduate, or
      2. have alternative qualifications or experience acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences).
    3. In considering an applicant's qualifications, regard will be had to the detail of the course of study followed to gain the qualification, as well as the applicant's performance in the programme.

    Students that have completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours or a Bachelor of Science with Honours in a relevant subject, or the Postgraduate Certificate in Civil Engineering with good grades, may be admitted to the programme with approval based on the relevance of their previous studies.

    If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet UC's English language requirements.

    • Have achieved NCEA Level 3 and New Zealand University Entrance
    • Be able to provide evidence you satisfy our criteria for existing English proficiency
    • Have achieved at least one English proficiency outcome in the last two years

    • An equivalent qualification; or
    • Equivalent credits from appropriate trades training and/or demonstrated skills and experience; or
    • Provide sufficient evidence to be eligible for special or discretionary admission

    While the general characteristics of the Bachelor of Surveying with Honours (BSurv(Hons)) are the same as for the BSurv, the Honours student is required to take a full Honours dissertation in the final year of his/her degree programme.

    Entry Requirements

    1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences).
    2. Admission to the Honours programme will be based upon an applicant's academic performance in the compulsory papers for the Second and Third years of the programme for the ordinary degree of Bachelor of Surveying.
    3. An applicant who holds the degree of Bachelor of Surveying shall not be admitted to the Honours programme.

    Academic requirements

    You must have completed at least one of the following:

    • A minimum of 60 credits at NCEA Level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework, with at least 3 'C' passes in the New Zealand University Bursaries Examinations;
      • A minimum of 14 credits at Level 3 in Physics and
      • A minimum of 14 credits at Level 3 in Mathematics (including Algebra and calculus); and
      • A minimum of 14 credits at Level 3 in one other subject from the list of approved NZQA UE subjects and
      • A minimum of 18 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional subjects from the approved subjects listed at NZQA;
    • Successful completion of New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil)
    • Equivalent academic qualifications may include:
      • University Bursary with 45% or more in both Physics and Calculus or Algebra or
      • Equivalent Cambridge score; or
      • Equivalent International Baccalaureate
    And meet one of the English entry requirements;
    • University Entrance Literacy: 10 credits at Level 2 or above in English or Maori (5 in Reading, 5 in Writing); or
    • Evidence of English language proficiency as outlined in the NZQA Rules on the Unitec English Language Requirements for International Students Web-page.

    As a part of this requirement, you must be at least 16 years of age and meet one of the below;

    • Successful completion of New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil)
    • All applicants must be at least 16 years of age when they begin their studies, and they should meet the country-specific admission requirement;

    And English entry requirements;

    If English is not your first language, you will also need at least one of the following qualifications:

    • Evidence of an IELTS (Academic) band score of at least 6 with writing and speaking scores no less than 6.0 and reading and listening bands no less than 5.5 or
    • University Entrance Literacy: 10 credits at Level 2 or above in English or Maori (5 in Reading, 5 in Writing) or
    • Evidence of English language proficiency as outlined in the NZQA Rules on the Unitec English Language Requirements for International Students Web-page.
