    Applicants must be at least 16 years of age when they begin their studies, and they should meet the country-specific admission requirement or have completed one of the following:

    Bachelor (Honours)

    The Bachelor of Theology with Honours (BTheol(Hons)) is an academically demanding degree which can be completed in Biblical Studies, Christian Thought and History, and Pastoral Studies. There are language requirements for student whose Honours subject is Biblical Studies.

    Entry Requirements

    1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities).
    2. Every applicant shall have fulfilled one of the following conditions:
      1. have been admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Theology with an endorsement in the subject of study proposed and with an average of B+ in at least four 300-level papers;
      2. have been admitted with the status of one who is entitled to proceed to the degree;
      3. have a qualification acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and produce evidence acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of ability to proceed to the degree.
    3. A student enrolled for a postgraduate diploma programme may not be admitted retrospectively and transfer to an Honours programme unless he or she would have been eligible for admission at the commencement of the programme and the structure and duration of the postgraduate diploma programme are identical to those for the Honours programme.

      1. have been admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Dental Technology (if studying by papers and thesis), or
      2. have been awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Technology (if studying by thesis only), or
      3. have alternative qualifications and experience acceptable to the Dean of Dentistry (in considering an applicant's qualifications, regard will be given to the detail of the course of study followed, as well as the applicant's performance).
    3. Applicants whose previous qualifications do not include the degree of Bachelor of Dental Technology will be required, as a prerequisite for the thesis, to have passed a suitable paper in research methodology.

    The Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (PGDipClinDent) may be undertaken full-time (one year) or part-time (two years) at the Faculty of Dentistry depending on the endorsement.

    Entry Requirements

    1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences).
    2. Every applicant shall hold the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery of the University of Otago or another equivalent dental qualification approved by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences), and be a registered dental practitioner in their country of practice or residence.
    3. Candidates will be selected on the basis of their previous academic record (normally with a grade average of a B+ or greater), their graduate experience and academic achievements, evidence that they are committed to ongoing education, reports from three referees and postgraduate English requirements (where applicable).
    4. Admission to the programme is limited to a number of candidates determined by the Council annually on the basis of available resources.

Candidates seeking admission to the 240-point programme of study comprising papers and a thesis will be selected on the basis of their previous academic record (a completed Bachelor of Dental Surgery or equivalent with a grade average of a B+ or greater), their graduate experience and academic achievements, evidence that they are committed to ongoing education in Public Health and Community Dentistry, reports from three referees, and postgraduate English requirements (where applicable).
    3. Candidates seeking admission to the programme of study comprising the 120-point thesis must have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Community Dentistry or equivalent with a grade average of a B+ or greater.

    The Master of Nursing Science ( MNSc ) offers an intensive two-year pathway to nursing registration for graduates of any discipline. A part-time study pathway is also available.

    Entry Requirements

    1. Applications must be made by the due dates specified as part of the Guidelines for Admission into the Health Sciences Professional Programmes published at www.otago.ac.nz/healthsciences. ("the Guidelines")
    2. Selection of eligible students for admission to the Master of Nursing Science programme shall be made by the Nursing Admissions Committee ("the Committee") whose terms of reference shall be established by the Division of Health Sciences and approved by the Senate.
    3. Subject to these regulations and the Selection Criteria established by the Committee and approved by Senate from time to time and published as part of the Guidelines, selection for admission shall be in the discretion of the Committee.
    4. Without limitation, the Selection Criteria may include:
      1. academic performance;
      2. demonstration of appropriate attributes for admission into the programme.

       policy promotes and facilitates equity for Maori students and students from other under-represented groups. In accordance with this policy, the Selection Criteria may provide for applicants in the following equity groups to be given preference for selection:

    6. Recognition for inclusion in the Maori and Resident Indigenous Pacific equity groups shall be through demonstration of ancestry in accordance with the University's Ancestry Verification Procedures for Maori and Pacific Students and any other criteria the Senate may determine. Criteria for inclusion in the Rural, Socioeconomic Equity and Refugee Background equity groups shall be established by the Academic Board of the Division of Health Sciences and approved by the Senate. Criteria approved by the Senate shall be published as part of the Guidelines.
    7. Every applicant
      1. must hold an undergraduate degree requiring at least three years of fulltime study; or hold a bachelor's honours degree; or hold a bachelor's degree followed by a postgraduate diploma; or hold a master's or doctoral degree;
        2. Note: Applicants must have achieved a grade average of B or better in the final two years of the qualifying degree (except for a doctoral degree or a master's degree that is not graded) on which the application is based.
      2. must have provided a current curriculum vitae and a statement of interest.
    8. An applicant may be required to attend an interview.
    9. Notwithstanding any of the above provisions, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) shall have discretion to approve a recommendation from the Committee concerning any applicant who, not having satisfied these regulations in a particular aspect, in the Committee's view warrants admission to the programme for exceptional reasons.
    10. Any applicant who
      1. is, or who has been, the subject of criminal charges; or
      2. is, or who has been, subject to disciplinary proceedings of a tertiary institution or professional body; or
      3. has been found to have an issue (whether in connection with their mental or physical health, or their professional attributes or conduct, or otherwise) that compromises or is likely to compromise their fitness to practise; or
      4. is found to have failed to declare a matter covered by 1((j)(i)-(iii);

      11. may be declined admission to the programme by the Committee on the recommendation of the Health and Conduct Review Group. Any offer of admission made before responses to medical tests or requests for information regarding an applicant's health status or past conduct have been received is conditional on the information received confirming the applicant's suitability for admission.

    11. The number of candidates to be admitted to the first year of the programme will be determined by the number of places available for clinical teaching.

A candidate with outstanding results in a subject prior to entering the University may be permitted by the Head of Department concerned to enrol for a paper at 200-level without having satisfied the normal prerequisites. In such cases the candidate shall not be credited with the prerequisite papers, but shall be exempted from including those papers in a Major Subject Requirement. A candidate may not, having passed any such paper at 200-level, enrol subsequently for any paper for which the exemption has been given.

    (c) Normally, candidature for the degree shall commence at the beginning of either Trimester 1 or Trimester 2 of the year following that in which the candidate qualifies in terms of Rule (b).
