Academic requirements
You must have completed at least one of the following:
At least 3 'C' passes in the New Zealand University Bursaries Examinations; Or
42 credits at NCEA Level 3 or higher including:
14 credits in two different approved subjects; and
14 credits from up to two subjects (approved or non-approved)
14 credits in NCEA Level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau
And meet one of the English entry requirements;
University Entrance Literacy: 8 credits at Level 2 or above in English or Maori (4 in Reading, 4 in Writing); or
Evidence of English language proficiency as outlined in the NZQA Rules on the Unitec English Language Requirements for International Students Web-page.

The Master of Music (MMus) is designed to further develop your musical skills, enabling entry to a high-level career in many areas of music. At masters level, you are able to specialise in one of four distinct areas - performance, composition, musicology or studio pedagogy.
Whether you are a performer, composer, musicologist or music studio teacher, your honours year sees you focus exclusively on your area of specialisation.
The Master of Community Dance activates the role of dance in interrogating local and international societal concerns. As identified by UNESCO, such concerns may include sustainability, cultural diversity, equity and peace.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Dance Studies builds on undergraduate study and previous dance experience by delving deeper into dance practice and philosophy. You will gain practical, conceptual and theoretical skills in choreography, dance education, dance writing and community dance.
The GradDipMus programme broadens knowledge and skills in music on a general level. You will have the chance to explore your specific area of interest and learn more about other areas of the discipline.
Dance research fosters independent examination of creative practice, pedagogy, history, people and society. In the Master of Dance Studies programme, you will critically examine practices, theories and issues that you find personally and professionally challenging and stimulating.
The Bachelor of Commercial Music (Honours) is a one-year degree, with taught courses followed by an independent project. You'll get one-on-one mentorship and support from our industry-connected academics.

To enter the Bachelor of Commercial Music (Honours) you will:
have been awarded or qualified for a Bachelor of Commercial Music, or equivalent, with at least a B grade average over the highest level courses.
You must provide verified copies of all academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University.

Academic requirements:
For this programme, you will need the following:
A minimum of 4 years' secondary education;
Be 16 years old by the time the programme starts;
Successfully complete an interview, audition and/or submission;
A minimum total of 40 NCEA credits at level 2 in four subjects;
A minimum of 12 English credits at level 1 or higher;
University Entrance numeracy (or equivalent);
If you haven't met the above NCEA requirements, you'll need one of the following:
A relevant qualification at Level 3 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework or equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or Cambridge), or;
The New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3);
After you have submitted your application to study at Unitec, you may be asked to attend a skills review session to assess your literacy and numeracy levels. This helps us to enrol you in the best programme and courses for your career pathway.
English requirements for international students:
If English is not your first language, you will need one of the following:
Academic IELTS level 5.5 with no band lower than 5, or;
The New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 3 (Applied).
If you don't meet the English criteria above, we have a range of English Language programmes available, depending on your current level of ability.
If you don't meet these requirements, you may still apply under special or discretionary entrance, or try our New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3).
