    Doctor of Commerce (DCom)

    Doctorate (PhD)

    A Doctor of Commerce degree is awarded for published original contributions of special excellence in some branch of commerce. A candidate for this degree would normally have graduated from the University of Otago and have held a degree for at least five years before applying.

    Entry Requirements

    1. A degree shall be awarded for published original contributions of special excellence in the appropriate discipline. An individual shall only ever be entitled to be awarded one Higher Doctorate from the University of Otago - applications for multiple Higher Doctorates are not permitted.
    2. Every candidate for a Higher Doctoral degree must have held a degree for at least five years before applying for admission to the degree.
    3. A candidate for the degree shall normally be a graduate of the University of Otago, or shall have completed a substantial proportion of the work to be presented while working in an academic or research unit of the University.

    Master of Accounting and Finance (MAccFin)

    Entry Requirements

    1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Commerce).
    2. Every applicant must either
      1. be a graduate with a Bachelor's degree majoring in Accounting with a second major or minor in Finance, and normally have achieved an average grade of B in the papers satisfying the final-year major subject requirements for the degree, or
      2. have equivalent alternative qualifications or experience acceptable to the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Commerce).
    3. In considering an applicant's qualifications, regard will be given to the detail of the course of study followed to gain the qualification, as well as the applicant's performance in the programme.

    Master of Finance (MFinc)

    The Master of Finance (MFinc) will equip students to be either professional practitioners or academic researchers in the field of Finance. The Master of Finance can be completed in one year of full-time study which consists of a selection of papers plus either an applied or research project.

      1. be a graduate and normally have achieved an average grade of B in the papers satisfying the final year major subject requirements for that degree, or

    Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce (PGDipCom)

    Graduate Diploma

    The Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce (PGDipCom) is a two-semester paper-based programme designed for graduates seeking to build on their undergraduate degree and enhance their career prospects.

    Entry Requirements

    1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce).
    2. Every applicant shall
      1. either have been admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Commerce majoring in the subject or subjects of study proposed
      2. or have been admitted with the status of one who is entitled to proceed to the diploma.

    Bachelor of Commerce with Honours (BCom(Hons))

    Bachelor (Honours)

    No new enrolments will be accepted for the BCom(Hons) for 2025. The Bachelor of Commerce with Honours (BCom(Hons)) degree is a postgraduate programme which can be taken by meritorious students. The degree involves intensive study, culminating with the completion of a research dissertation.

    Entry Requirements

    1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce).
    2. Every applicant shall have fulfilled one of the following conditions:
      1. have been admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Commerce majoring in the subject or subjects of study proposed with an average grade of B+ for the best four 300-level papers that can count towards the major subject requirements;
      2. have been admitted with the status of one who is entitled to proceed to the degree;
      3. have a qualification acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce) and produce evidence acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce) of ability to proceed to the degree.

In such cases the candidate shall not be credited with the prerequisite papers, but shall be exempted from including those papers in a Major Subject Requirement. A candidate may not, having passed any such paper at 200-level, enrol subsequently for any paper for which the exemption has been given.
