<div>This three-year degree will give you the skills needed to succeed in a number of branches of the performing arts. You'll gain practical experience in performance and production work in key theatre disciplines such as acting, singing and dance, as well as studies in spoken voice, music theory, theatre history, technical theatre skills and research methods. From the second year, you will refine your programme of study to suit your strengths and interests, while learning to integrate the skills you learnt in first year. In the final year, most assessment is focused on your Capstone project, a large, self-directed year-long project that you design! This project allows for considerable work integrated learning in industry settings, including the possibility of working in professional productions, and further specialisations to develop other, related skills within the worlds of applied theatre and theatre for the stage. Bachelor of Music Theatre - PENDING EXTERNAL APPROVAL

<div>Our Bachelor of Music covers all the skills and knowledge you need to be a multi-faceted professional musician. It's built around collaboration - you'll learn the foundational skills and apply them in group projects and classes that directly mirror the real world of the music industry.More than half the programme content is practical in nature, a higher proportion than most music degrees in New Zealand. This includes regular structured rehearsals, in-class demonstrations and numerous performance opportunities including concerts and gigs with staff and other students. With such a focus on the practical, you're a musician from day one at Ara.The degree offers three pathways: Music Creation (composition), Music Performance and Music Production. This choice lets you specialise in the area you're passionate about, while learning alongside and working with musicians from other pathways. Your third-year capstone project allows you to design your own major project (which can include a work placement if relevant) with dedicated specialist tutor support.At Ara you'll learn from a great team of tutors who are each also professional, working musicians. They perform, write and record across the country, from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra to Salmonella Dub and everything in between. <div>Dual Enrolment programmes are FREE if you're in Years 11, 12 or 13 and a great way to earn NCEA credits and get a feel for tertiary study, while you're still at school. Learn from professional tutors about safety on engineering worksites, how to use professional equipment and machinery. You'll also learn welding principles, basic fabrication and mechanical engineering machine operations. This programme is delivered one day per week (Fridays: 9:00am - 3:00pm). Location: Woolston *Places are limited and funding is dependent on availability. Some courses may incur costs, depending on the learner's eligibility.</div>

Manufacturing and Technology Vocational Pathway (Introduction to Engineering) One Day

<div>Dual Enrolment programmes are FREE if you're in Years 11, 12 or 13 and a great way to earn NCEA credits and get a feel for tertiary study, while you're still at school. This course covers a combination of basic automotive, engineering and welding skills to start you on the road to being confident in a general workshop. During the course you'll get some experience on repair and maintenance on small engines and plant. You'll also learn to weld and grasp some basic engineering skills. This programme is delivered one day per week during school term time (Thursdays 9:00am - 3:00pm). Location: Timaru *Places are limited and funding is dependent on availability. Some courses may incur costs, depending on the learner's eligibility. Part-time 1 year (while still at school). </div>

Gain an introduction to the automotive and engineering trades through hands-on experience in a range of skills including welding, collision repair, machine and hand tool operation, general engineering tasks and basic automotive servicing skills. This programme will enable you to make an informed decision about your future study and career pathways. This programme is delivered two days per week (Thursdays and Fridays 9:00am - 3:00pm). Location: Woolston, SIT *Places are limited and funding is dependent on availability. Some courses may incur costs, depending on the learner's eligibility. </div>

Manufacturing and Technology Vocational Pathway (Automotive & Engineering) Two Day DE

<div>Dual Enrolment programmes are FREE if you're in Years 11, 12 or 13 and a great way to earn NCEA credits and get a feel for tertiary study, while you're still at school. This varied course covers a wide range of skills used in the automotive industry and will help you decide which area you'd like to focus on. You'll learn how to prepare a vehicle or machine for shut down, explain the operation of two and four stroke petrol and diesel engines and how welding is used in the motor industry. This programme is delivered one day per week (Christchurch: Fridays 9:00am - 3:00pm) (Timaru: Thursdays or Fridays 9:00am - 3:00pm). Location: Woolston, Timaru *Places are limited and funding is dependent on availability. Some courses may incur costs, depending on the learner's eligibility.</div>

Manufacturing and Technology Vocational Pathway (Automotive & Engineering) One Day DE

<div>Dual Enrolment programmes are FREE if you're in Years 11, 12 or 13 and a great way to earn NCEA credits and get a feel for tertiary study, while you're still at school. This programme provides the opportunity to gain basic electrical skills and knowledge to either enter a pre-trade programme or employment into the electrical industry as an apprentice. It's also a good grounding for work in the security systems and audio industries. The programme covers: electrical theory; legislation and regulations; testing and safety; first aid; basic electric motors; basic use of tools; numeracy and literacy for the electrical industry. This programme is delivered two days per week (Thursdays and Fridays 9:00am - 3:00pm). Location: Woolston *Places are limited and funding is dependent on availability. Some courses may incur costs, depending on the learner's eligibility. Part-time 1 year (while still at school). </div>
